Hypoglycemia 7 months post op?
Anyone experienced this? I have been having the low sugar symptoms (Shaking, weak, light headedness). I have been monitoring my levels for the past few days and will continue until the Dr. appointment I made for this issue. My levels for yesterday were 68 AM Fasting. I was a little shaky. Then, 2 hours after I ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner they were all pretty close 71-73. Is this normal or low? I keep getting the shakes and stuff and its freaking me out:( I should mention that I have never had sugar problems before even at my heaviest.
I have been experiencing the same thing although not as low as yours. You'll probably need to eat something every few hours, if only just a bit. I did find that if I ate something before I went to bed it helps with my fasting levels in the morning. This goes against my rules, but eliminates that feeling of being so shaky. I hate that feeling. Make sure you're getting enough complex carbohydrates.

Hi! I'm almost four years out and a type 1 diabetic. I still have crashes, but its' MY usual. I'll never get rid of my diabetes, but the WLS has helped me handle it much better. How are you treating your lows now? For me, juice makes me feel ill, but if I cut it w/water (at my surgeon's suggestion) I do better...however, Target sells glucose tablets (the citrus flavors are best) which don't make me dump and raise my sugar acceptably. It's normal to crash while your body goes through its transformation. :) Give yourself time, and absolutely seek your endo's adivce.
Be well,
Marie

i am 2 years out and just started running into hypoglycemia, i think reactive but not sure. Im actually pretty mad about it, nobody ever said i would have any problems like this, and i actually found out i may have this because i had a seizure on sat. from it. Sooooo mad..... now i am so parinoid and i check it all the time and all i eat is protien and veggies because im so scared. I though surgery was supposed to help get rid of these things not create them, so ur telling me i was healthier before i had surgery? Im just angry and not quite sure of this anymore.
I have SERIOUS problems with hypoglycemia.
The very best way I've found to combat it is to avoid carbs as much as possible throughout the day, especially in the AM.
Most veggies are fine, except very high glycemic ones like potatoes, sometimes carrots for me. Limit bread, especially if it's white bread.
Also, always carry glucose tabs with you just in case. You usually only need 4-5, just be patient.
Avoid candy, sweets, etc. For me, if I can avoid carbs throughout the day, I can have a few at night.

This is just the type of thing I was looking for. I have not been around much at for many other health reasons that I won't go in to at the moment (not related to the RNY at all).
I have been having significant drops in BS. Mine are in the 30's and drop very fast. My endo wasn't sure my meter was correct being I was still able to talk so he wanted this captured in the lab with a venous draw. It turns out my meter was indeed accurate! When I got home ER called me to say they got a panic lab value back on me and wanted to know if I was doing OK; then the next morning the clinic called me from the docs office that ordered this test and said, 'we got a critical lab value backl and wanted to know how you are doing.' BS of 32 I believe it was. It's just crazy how quickly this can happen.
This wasn't ever explained to me as a potential risk but I don't believe they really knew this was a potential risk at that time or I do know that they would have informed me. I have full trust & faith in my surgeon!! Nonetheless, this is not something I enjoy having to deal with! My endo says if it gets to the point that I can't handle this OR I blackout, then it is time to go to Mayo for evaluation and consideration of partial removal of pancreas perhaps or if there are perhaps small cysts or tumors on the pancreas that they could not visualize here on CT that they may wish to evaulate further as a potential cause.
Looking for any thoughts or comments from others who are having similar issues & what they are doing, what their docs have told them etc. I was type II diabetic prior to this. Am currently on prednisone which can raise BS so am running on average about 115. My lows have been as low as 29 and my highs as high as 294. On long term lose dose prednisone now for RA (rheumatoid arthritis).

Hi there!! Had my surgery in 2003. I am a firm believer if you are going this route of weight loss(my story is a story in itself) do what you Doc says...and I did just that and had NO problems(so I thought) up to this point.Looking back, things were happening that I had no idea was my blood sugar levels dropping. Now here in the present, since Thanksgiving, I have dropped to 39..amazing I had not passed out. Went back to my Doc and he sent me to an End. doc who specializes in BS patients..Yes, I know this is not the normal kinda of patients that are use to caring for. Was put on a low carb diet and have to eat between meals snacks.(every two to three hours) Eat Oatmeal twice a day(Weight control instant) morning and for my bedtime snack to hold me over during the night..I tried to maintain it with diet but it didn't work .Finally have been put on Percose(Acarbose) four time a day.Helped some..yes, fixed the problem No..still have lows even an hour after eating. Reactive is the main word in the whole problem. Whether Stressed or excited the sugar level is affected. Looking for an Endro Doc in Alabama for cares for Baractric patients. Looking too for any help or suggestions,
Thanks, Mona
