I had surgery in 2003 and have been very successful.  Last year I begun having the following symptoms without warning:  nervous, weak, confused, sweating, exhaustion, excessive hunger blurred vision, can't walk or stand, must sit down, followed by a headache.  Is anyone else having these symptoms ???

Have you checked your blood glucose levels to confirm that this is the cause of these symptoms?

In general, reactive hypoglycemia after RNY (I'm assuming that's what you had - your surgery type is not listed under your name) is NOT uncommon. The bast way to combat it is to eat frequently throughout the day and limit your carb intake to try to keep your blood sugar levels more even.

I have been having the same issues and as it starts I check my sugar and I am crashing at about 30, I have been lower and don't know where I am. I try to eat every three hours but it still happens in the evening. I woke up last night and had to eat something to get my sugars up they were down to 40.This is very scary, I am seeing an endococdisis at the end oF March made the appointmentin December they are hard to get in. I wish you good luck and I hope I can find out what's wrong but everything I try has not worked. I have also notices my gland are swelled in different areas of my body, don't know if this has anything to do with it.

Hello~

I too had my rny in 2003 but these same symtoms started for me about 1yr after surgery then was treated for panic attacks with xanax.  I was diagnosed correctly when during a reg check-up with my doc. I went into one of my "attacks"  and on a hunch my dr. checked my sugar.  My dr. was quite amazed when it came back as a 27~he said that with that reading I should not be conscious.  That was a long time ago and I only recently learned through online reseach that this hypoglycemia is directly related to my wls.  Like mine, it can get worse and very dangerous.  I recommend that you too reseach and find out all you can and then see an endocrinologist.   Good Luck!

You both are so right.  I did go to an endocrinologist and I was given a prescription that has really worked.  I haven't had an attack in 4 months.  No more fears.  It was hypoglycemia and the pill stableizes my insulin.

What is the name of the pill. I have a friend with this problem. She is 18 months post RNY.

I too am also 8 years post op and just began having this problem in the last 2 years.  I am also a recovering alcoholic, thanks to addiction switching, which I knew nothing about.  I thought maybe I had harmed my body with the alcohol.  I am working with an endocrinologist, but he is hesitant to put me on any medication.  He has me monitoring my carb intake so it doesn't spike too high, in turn causing the low low numbers.  What sucks is that I had the surgery as part of a prevention for diabetes.  Looks like I'm going to have to monitor it more closely because I still can't seem to stablize it with food.
