Type 1.5 Diabetic
I was told that I am a Type 1.5 Diabetic. A Type I with Type II tendencies, weight gain with uncontrolled blood sugars. I am currently taking Victoza 1.8mg. My last A1c went from 9 to 7.6! And I have lost approximately 11 lbs. So the drug is very effective. Here is my question: I am considering VSG and would like to know is your appetitie severly depressed with this procedure? I have read other posts and individuals stated that post-op VSG they did not have hunger suppression. I am wondering if I need to continue my Victoza for blood sugar control along with the procedure. Looking forward for your input/advice.

It varies by individual. Many do have a significant decrease in appetite post-VSG due to the drastic reduction of ghrelin; some, however, never really lose their appetite. However, even if the appetite remains, you can only hold so much in that new sleeved stomach, so very little food will quench that appetite as opposed to the seemingly bottomless pit of a stomach you probably have felt like you have :)
You may or may not need to continue the medication after your VSG. Most can reduce or even discontinue meds simply because the early post-op diet is SO low in carbs that it is much easier to control blood glucose levels. Your endo/PCP/surgeon should work with you to determine the best course of action for your treatment of your diabetes.
