is it really an excuse?
I'm 3 months out from getting my band. i have lost 30lbs but from everything I'm doing it should be a lot more. everyone i talk to says " well its because of your type 1 diabetes" but to me i don't want to have that as an excuse. I get lows more often and Ive cut back my insulin, switched from my pump back to shots, since it helps me eat less ( less times i eat less pokes)
I just need to know, for eating a 1000 cal diet, working out 5 days a week (running, circuit training and zumba) shouldn't the weight be falling off?

With that level of exercise, you might need to be eating MORE.
My doctor said that typically 80% of his successful band patients loose about 60 pounds in the first year.
Insulin is a fat storing hormone, and I do think that it can be slower.
What type of eating plan does your nutritionist have you on? maybe your not getting in what your body needs.
Also what about measurements? The scale may not be showing what your loosing in inches on your body.
I personally would not of gone from the pump to shots. Its easy enough to reduce basal rates, and adjust ratios. But if you feel you get better control on shots go for it. I'm just saying personally I prefer my pump. With the pump can also have alternative basal rates for exercise days, so your lows would be reduced.

I had band surgery last year....lost about 25 pounds, as soon as I started eating normaly, lean meats, a few carbs mixed in with dinner, fruit, salad. I gained it all back. I am type 1 and have been seeing a nutritionist for years, so she knew I wasn't over eating...just eating what was on the diet from her. We decided to test everything. I ate nothing but protein shakes and yogurt and oatmeal for 2 weeks, lost 10 pounds, Ate normal the next two weeks, gained it back. I am getting ready for RNY now.
The band just didn't work for me. I didn't eat a whole lot to begin with, so I was hopeful, but unsure. It seems that after 32 years as a type 1, I need the malabsorption part of the band in order to lose. Good luck. I hope it works for you.
