Can't get my diabetes meds

Get this I have been on the liquid form of metformin (Riomet) since my surgery  3 yrs ago. It was one of the only meds I still take for my unresolved diabetes. It is better but not totally gone. Now I can't get this medication any longer. The manufacturer has stopped making it. None of the pharmacies in this area carry Riomet and can not order it. So , I just began the pill form and find my stomach is irritated and gets bloated. I am supposed to take (2)500mg 2x a day . I am taking the highest dose allowed. Today I only took one at breakfast.

Did anyone hear anything about the riomet ?  Like when it will be available again? I don't want to mess up my BS with trying a new combo of diabetes drugs. Some make you put on weight.'

Thanks Liz:
I did look it up on drugs.com. I was only able to find information on the drug. I couldn't figure out how to order it. I did google it a while ago . There website said that they not be manufacturing  Riomet for six months from March 30th. I think that I got the last of the stock in my area. They are beginning to ship to Canada. If you  know how to order from drugs.com, I would definitely want to .
Thanks Karen

I just started the new drug victoza not only has it got my blood sugar under control but I have lost 8 lbs in 13 days. The weight loss is a side effect of the drug. Some people have lose 80 and 90 lbs on it. It was just approved in Jan 2010. I love it , I only have to take it and nothing else. I was on metformin twice a day and now I do not take it at all. I have been diabetic for over 20 years. thanks judy

Thanks for the information. I will ask my endo about it after the weekend.  Is this medicine a small pill ? One the main reasons  to take riomet is because it was liquid. It is better with the lap band. I would be willing to try it especially if it helps with WL.
thanks Karen

No it is a very tiny injection that you put in the soft area in the lower belly, You do not have any feeling there and the needle is 1/2 inch or less. It is painless and only one time a day. When every you want to take it . You do not have to worry about eating or anything. Just take it at the same time everyday. In the begining you will be a little tired and some upset tummy but it goes away and then it just feels like you have a beach ball in your stomach and you can not eat very much. One day I only ate 422 calories. So I have added protien shakes to round out my diet. thanks and Good luck. I believe this is a true miracle drug.

metformin takes awhile for the body to get used to it. if your not able to tolerate 1000 mg 2 times a day - ask your doctor if you can split it up do the 500s 4x through out the day vs just two 2x a day. also the time released is suppose to work better with tummy issues - which might work well with the band for you

tell me please, why you do not such alternative methods as physiotherapy? it's the sphere, where are lots of scientific researches and innovations. for example, I pay my attention on magnetotherapy, because it's perspective, up-and-coming and too interesting for people who suffer from diabetes. I can share with you the information, have a look and give me please your opinion about it
