I was on metformin before RNY three years ago.  Now I go hypoglycemic with readings often in the low 50's.  Am I still considered diabetic? Wondering if insurance will pay for my testing supplies. Thanks

get a script and they should.

probably what your experiencing is reactive hypoglycemia. Many RNY folks will have that. So might have to modify how often and what you eat. Less the carbs, go with more complex ones, ones that are low on the glycemic index as well.

If you've had that diagnosis on your medical record, you should be fine.

Yes you are still considered a diabetic and will be for life.  Just like someone who gets good control of their diabetes through diet is still considered diabetic.  If they cover diabetic supplies then you should be able to get them.  Sorry you have been hypoglycemic.  Even if you weren't considered diabetic before I would hope they would cover it due to the hypoglycemia.  Its good to keep tabs on these numbers, severely low Blood glucose can cause seizues and has been known to happen with some post RNY patients who have reactive hypoglycemia.
