A1C Test Results, 10 weeks Post Op

went to see my primary care doctor on July 5th.  It was my first visit to see her since my surgery.  I got my lab results back last week.  My A1C (three month blood sugar test) result was 5.5% which puts me in the category of a normal person who doesn't have diabetes.  Not bad considering I haven't taken any medication since the day I got home from the hospital after having my gastric bypass.  Just another reason for the morbidly obese to have this life-saving surgery.

Can I ask what your A1C was before the operation?
5.5% is wonderful!. Keep it up!

The last result that I had was 6.4% in September of 2009.  I believe my results in December of 2009 was 6.2%.  That was the last A1C I had done before surgery.

Great news. I was wondering if you were on insulin proir to WLS? My husband and I are both strongly considering RNY. We both have diabetes, me just recently, but he has ben on insulin for 15 years.
Thanks and CONGRATS!

You are very lucky! My A1C went down to about 6 after my RNY but I never went off meds and slowly had to increase my meds. I am almost 4 years post op and take 4 meds, last A1C in May was 7.2! I weigh 148, go to the gym 5x a week and watch my diet. I think it's because I had type 2 diabetes for 17 years prior to RNY. I am still glad I had the surgery...I'd probably be walking with a cane now and maybe have had some limbs removed, who knows? My quality of life would have been awful. So I still have to take meds but I am pretty much healthy otherwise!
