i am curious what other people have had to do with their pumps during surgery..do you just disconnect.... and after.. did you turn the basel down by half, and re do all your carb/correction ratios?

my endo seems to have gone on vacation and im getting close to getting my band....

When I had a c-section they let me keep it on. Each surgeon is different. If you seem to have good control on your own and keep good records then try to just do it on your own and keep it on.

I kept my pump on during my RNY and ran a 70% basal rate. Had a friend that went through surgery and they took off her pump and they could not figure out why she was over 600 when she woke up. Many times they don't realize the pump is just fast acting.

I have not had RNY yet BUT I have had 2 c-cections and 3 other surgeries and all of them allowed me to keep my pump. they just adjust the basal.

thanks for all the feed back. i am going to try to have my pump on ... since from what  i hear its only a 45min procedure for the band and a total of 4-5 hrs in the hospital i think it shouldn't be a problem. When i had my two children i had to be taken off my pump because the docs i had were nut jobs. I have called the endo again and she said that she will try to get me an apt with her before i have the surgery on the 16Th

I had lap band and left mine on.  I told them I was leaving it on.  I used a 70 % temp basel and my blood sugars were perfect.  As a matter of fact I was taking 120 units a day before now I take 40.  It's awesome.  Good luck.

oh wow! thank yoU! i am very nervous about not having a base line of insulin. however my doc asures me that he is more comfortable doing it via shots than a pump, it doesnt bother him if i get 10 shots a day lol  (personally i think every doc that deals with diabetics needs to know pump 101 and 102 lol )
i hope to be on my pump a few days after the surgery.   i take around 80-100 units.. however my basel is only 26 of those units.

hopefully everythign goes smooth and i dont end up in DKA :D
