Hello everyone...has anyone been diagnosed with pre-diabetes (borderline diabetes) and the insurance considered it a co-morbidity for approval.  I take glucophage.  If so what was your BMI?  Thanks

I've had diabetes for 20 years. I have high bp, choleserol and I have arthritis. Blue Cross still turned me down!

Because you're going for a VSG? They turned you down for an uncovered procedure, not for your lack of comorbidities. BTW, have you looked into the DS? It has the highest type 2 diabetes resolution rate of any WLS procedure.

Most insurance companies will not recognize insulin resistance as a comorbidity, only actual diabetes. Depending on your situation, you may want to switch to a doctor who doesn't believe in "pre-diabetes." Some will diagnose pre-diabetes, while others will just say you're diabetic because you can't be "almost" diabetic (like being just "a little bit" pregnant - it doesn't work that way!).
