I am 2 weeks out, had RNY 12/14/09 and my blood sugar's are running in the low 200's.  My surgeon took my off of insulin and metformin.  Will the numbers slowly regulate, and go down, or shoud I be concerned?  Have an appointment with Surg. in 1 week and primary care physic. in 3 weeks.  Otherwise I am doing fantastic (other than tired of protein shakes, but that is manageable).  Help

with as little as you should be eating this early out, your blood sugar would be alarming to me. i would contact your surgeon or your regular dr asap.

I would definitely see PCP as soon as possible.  Mine were running in the high 100s, low 200s and my A1C had risen from 7.8 to 8.5 just in the 3-4 weeks following surgery.  I back on some medication (absolutely could not tolerate the metforming postop) but I'm on insulin and Glucotrol.  I'm hoping I can decrease or discontinue these in the future but for right now gotta have them.  At least I do have blood sugars in the very low 100s with these meds and before they were in the 200s even with much higher doses of insulin.  I think we are not one of the lucky ones who get rid of the diabetes immediately.

I would see your endocrinologist.  Surgery does not always place diabetes into remission. 200 is too high.  I still take meds (albeit less meds) after surgery.
