visit with endocrinologist
the endo my pcp referred me to just called and moved my appt up by 2 weeks. i have never seen her before but have talked to her about my issues during one of my daughters appts. i am not sure what to expect. my surgeon took me off of my metformin straight out of surgery saying i wouldnt need it, my type 2 was cured! my glucose readings over the next 7 months seemed to confirm this and i had no symptoms of the pcos that plagued me before surgery. then suddenly, the pcos was back with a vengence and, after having some blood work done, my insulin levels were high. my a1c showed my sugars were well controlled at 5.5. the endo says even though my glucose levels are normal doesnt mean that i am not still insulin resistant. i am figuring that she is going to order losts of blood work and put me back on metformin. anyone else have to be put back on diabetes meds over a year out from surgery?
problem with pcos is this. Not sure if the insulin resistancy causes pcos or pcos causes the insulin resistancy. Either way they go hand in hand. to treat pcos they will do the metformin, or hormone replacement.
Diabetes never goes away, its more managed when you loose weight, not causing strain on the body as much as before. Though, you got the chicken or the egg thing going on here it seems to me. I'm not a healt professional or anything, but it certainly seems to me that its the pcos that is requiring treatment.

Its not the weight loss that takes away our diabetes. IT has to be something to do with the surgery and the way we malabsorb. I never took another metformin pill since the night before my surgery and I hadn't lost even 1 pound yet, so it had nothing to do with my weight loss. At 2 weeks post op, my blood sugars were normal and at 3 months out my HA1C was normal.
I am 7 years out tfrom my surgery and 2 years ago, I was experiencing hypoglycemia episodes ..My pcp diagnosed me with type ll diabetes and hypoglycemia due to insulin resistance...My A1C numbers are great, but I feel so bad after I eat..so I recently visited an endo *****tested me with the fasting glucose test...where he tested my blood sugar and insulin levels every 10 minutes in the first hour and every 30 minutes during the last 2...test confirmed I am indeed insulin resistant...and hypoglycemia that is definitely related to my surgery...so he increased my vit A and D3..put me on a blood pressure med and I am currently tracking my readings for 6 weeks...I am also increasing my physical activity and tracking my carb intake...He particularly wanted me to be sure to eat a protein with any carb I eat...I purchased the Insulin Resistance Diet plan book which uses the "Link and Balance" system of linking proteins with carbs...I do feel a little better...my heart palpitations have lessened...I have increased my cinnamon intake...this problem has been so confusing...no one with type ll that I am acquainted with...do not absorb foods so quickly as I do...and dI really felt my surgery definitely changed the rules...so to speak...
