Obesity is NOT the only cause of diabetes. Have you been diagnosed as type 1, 2, or LADA? Some medications have been known to cause diabetes, sometimes it's a strong genetic tendancy, sometimes it's something that's been going on for a long time that you're just now finding out about, and sometimes, **** just happens!

I have met many people who were never obese and yet ended up with type 2 diabetes. It happens more often than most people know since the media has pounded into our brains that obesity CAUSES diabetes, which is not necessarily true.

Type 2 and my grandfather also had it. You are correct, **** just happens and it sucks!

I am sorry to hear about your diabetes.  I can't say it is fun, but it is manageable.  I have had it for 23 years this month.  Good luck. If I can offer you any advice let me know.

Which surgery did you have?

RYN, Dr Krause 6 years ago.

Mine went away after my RNY. Guess there is more to diabetes than meets the eye. I, like you, waited to have Dr. Krause do mine.

Its terrible!  you would think after losing 150lbs I would be healthy, now....I have Type 2 Diabetes and I am pissed.

I guess, I have to the Metformin and see what happens.

Thanks for your input

Robin,
Since both my father and his parents were diabetic I am sure that mine will one day return. I live in just a bit of fear of this, but my father lived a normal life with the disorder as did his sisters and brother. Best wishes.

Oh as a side note I happen to be at the Beaumont Weight Center waiting for my older sister at the Lymphodema clinic right now as I am typing this.
