low blood sugar of 69 post op
Good morning. I had my rny on Tuesday July 28th, I had seen my family dr who said to stop my byetta after surgery, to stop my atenol that day, reduce my furesomide in half and keep my lisnopril the same. Well after the surgery there internist dr who I never saw before came up to see me and tells me I have to continue with the byetta and atenol post op. I told him my dr already gave me instructions for discharge. Well he said no while you are here you will take your byetta and if your blood sugar gets to high we will give you insulin. Well it didn't get to high most days it was in the 90's and had one in the 150's. On the discharge papers he put to continue the byetta and all blood presssure med. I argue with this guy on the last day. and he said follow up with your regular dr he just confused more since I already had my stuff all written down and also had type them a list with all meds and all changes to take effect after surgery. Gave them the type copy so there were no questions. i am so upset wit h this doctor. Well i have not taken the byetta or the atenol. And I continue with the furseomide at half of the dose. He want me to stop that. I had such bad edmea once I took it was gone by night. I haven't took byetta. He tells me you can't get low blood sugars from byetta. But seems I got it from the surgery. And haven't had any byetta since I left the hospital. Today is first time I took my blood sugar I know the last 2 days were bad headaches which is a sign that my sugar is low. ON top of that he want to stop taking my bariartric advantage or celebrate vitimans. They want me to take a centrum or flinstone with iron in it. Sorry guys I taking something that i know is good for me. Where are they getting these quacks from. oh yea he told me to stop taking my biotin!!!! What are you nuts! My biotin is to help with hair loss and nails. I lost hair pre surgery and my surgeon recommend it. And now he is telling me to stop it. I really notice the hair on my bed there look like I shedded like a dog. I am not stopping my byetta. I am going to follow my dr orders and not these quacks. Just my surgeon, family dr and dietician. Not someone that sees me in the hospital who don't know me. They should of just called my family dr to talk to her about my care after discharge.
Is it normal to have this type of low sugars after surgery. My pre op testing my a1 c was 5.6 is why my dr stop the byetta after surgery and my fasting was 93. I had lost 50 lbs pre surgery in 6 months time.

Follow up with your doctor that manages your diabetes would be the best thing.
Ok, one thing to know - stress can either raise or lower your sugars more than normal. Your stressed because your body had surgery. a 5.6 is a normal ha1c - and with having lost so much in the last 6 months then yeah one would think that medications will change. Keep testing! If not a regular tester, do so a few times through out the day for point of reference and give that information to your doctor and go from there.
