Must have an A1C of 7.0 or less for surgery
You can lower your A1C by doing the eat to live diet. I lowered my A1C with this diet and added 10 more units or Latus at night and 10 units with Novolog.
Test Fasting and then after meals. I dont care if my sugar is 120 I give myself 20 of Lantus at night and eat an apple so I wont crash at night. I had to lower my A1C because the surgeon wanted my blood sugar as low as possible. A1C went from 11.8 to 8.2 in 10 weeks. I know you don't have that much time but you can probally lower it to desired amount. Hopes is helps

I think they are just worried about the risk of infection with the high blood sugars. My surgeon would not operate unless I was under 7. High sugars make it harder to heal and more likely to get infections.
Sounds like you are doing fine and you should have the levels down quickly. It is best to reduce risk as much as possible.
