Hello OH family,

My endo put me on 5mcg of Byetta 5 weeks ago and I have had fantastic results. I have lost 16 pounds and my sugars are fantastic. I am waiting to get my date any day now. all of a sudden I am second guessing WLS. Is it just nerves...has anyone else experienced these mixed feeling?

you lucky ducky.  It, along with symlin, didn't do a thing for me.  Except, I have to admit - it
brought my A1C down.  My doctor said they are thinking of approving it for weightloss for non-
diabetics too.  But no luck with me, at all.

I lost 40 lbs on Byetta in the first couple of months, but it tapered off pretty quickly after that.  I've been on it since Aug '05.  I have managed to keep those 40 lbs off, but that's it.  Other people I have talked to have gotten pretty much the same results.  The weight loss doesn't continue.  I have a lot of mixed feelings about WLS also- I'm getting a date for surgery June 4.

I loved Byetta! I was on it and it really helps. When you miss a day you'll eat everything but as soon as you back on it, you can tell the differnce. I'm off now becuase I don't think it's what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Ask your self do you want to continue to inject yourself everyday for the rest of your life? sure I thought hey this is great, all I have to do keep taking my metphormin and Byetta. It's not a permanent fix. I'm going foward with surgery next week. I don't want to wake up with a headache or that groggy feeling. I want to wake up and not remind myself that I have to take a pill. These are just my thoughts. good luck

I love Byetta. I lost 10 pounds.

The way I see it most likely I will stop using insulin and maybe just a pill. I will never have the potential of being in remission or being backround diabetic if I don't get the WLS.

I was on Byetta 5 2x per day for over a year...almost 2.  It helped me lose about 25#, however that's all.  My endo just d/c'd it for me because she doesn't think I'm recieving any benefits from it anymore.  I am PCOS w/ severe IR.  She suggested going to the higher dosage, however, I wound up w/ crashing BS and eating everything in site to get it to go up, so I declined.

Good luck to you though!
