CKD
Has anyone here had surgery with Chronic Kidney Disease? A few years ago I had some problems with it, but they took me off of all NSAIDS and my levels improved to a Stage 2; and fairly normal for my age. They drew pre-op labs last week, and my Kidneys are at 42%, Stage 3 of CKD. My BUN and Creatinine levels are out of range. I just can't believe this. I am a long time Diabetic, so I guess it's from that. Do you think that I can still have the surgery? My appointment for my physical, psych and to schedule surgery is this Thursday.

I owed it to myself to research the Duodenal Switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you. Check out: DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.
Marsha - I have NASH and Cirrhosis and I am currently at Stage 1 liver disease. I had to get approval from my gastroenterologist before I had surgery. He told me that it was probably best, in my situation, to have surgery. I got the opinion that without the liver disease he wouldn't have recommended it for me.
By the way, in addition to regular lab work, I have to get an ultrasound, and usually a CT scan, every 6 months to see if it has gotten worse.

Marsha,
I was born with polycystic kidney disease. My kidneys failed in 2005 and was on dialysis for 2 years, I had a kidney transplant in 2007. Before my kidneys failed I was in the process of getting WLS. I had only two more months to go on my supervised diet. My docs felt that WLS woud be a good option for me in the long term. If your kidneys do fail and you end up needing a transplant your weight will be the determining factor if you are a canidate for transplant. You cannot weigh more than 210lbs in order to get evaluated.
I didn't go through with it in 2005 because dialysis made me very sick and I lost weight. Not saying that it may come to that for you..but talk with you pcp. Do you have a nephrologist?
Feel free to message me..you are in my prayers!
