Help!! 20 days out--sugars creeping back up!!!!
Awww Thank you for responding! I am sorry to hear that you have had trouble with your diabates as well. As they say, I feel your pain. But, I do like your attitude that you are healthier now and it is very encouraging and inspiring thsat you can see the good through the bad. I am going to start going to a gym or back to curves, soon. I have some other medical issues, having to do with my sweat glands, that make it hard to exercise and sweat. I had been going to Curves, but had an attack from that and so I had to stop. But, I am hoping that maybe those issues will get better as the weight comes off, but we're not really sure whether it is related to the weight.
Anyway, I have been trying to drink the large sport bottles filled with crystal light. So, they are about 24 ounces each..so, I try to drink 3--I did it the frist day, but with the holidays and running around, the last couple of days I have gotten in 2 each day. Better than nothing, right? =)
As for my sugars...they have been a little better since I began drinking more. Plus, I had been hovering around the same 2 pounds for a good few days and it was bothering me. I know we're not supposed to weight every day and I try not to, but it is very hard! LOL I really want to go back to the weight just flying off! That would be nice! Ha! But, I know sometimes you lose inches and not really weight to match. I have a tape measure, but haven't really used it yet. Maybe I should get around to that one of these days! But, back to the sugars...I just hope they stay decently within range, They don't need to be perfect, but, I just want to be healthy, like you said. I guess I just hoped that it would "disappear" like it does for so many people. But, I suppose my diabetes was pretty aggressive and resistant, so...I can't expect that it would vanish as quickly as others. And, if I am diabetic forever and on meds forever, at least I will still be here and I will be able to enjoy life more than I can now with all this weight holding me back! I guess we all need to be grateful for the small things... =)
Thanks again and I hope that your diabetes treats you well, too!
Also, congrats on being at goal and for being such a diligent exerciser!
You are an inspiration!
Hugs,
Heather =)

While it's true that breaking a sweat during exercise is important, there are so many exercises you can do without sweating. Wearing the right attire is important. There is special gear now with wicking properties so your sweat gets absorbed. Try to invest in one workout outfit with the wicking properties, I think I found them at Kohls. Powder the areas that you have accessive sweat. Go back to Curves if you are still a member there. Take it slow but do it. When you are on the platforms, just twist, dance or lift your legs a little. Don't do as many reps on the machines but finish the circuit. At a month out you are ready to go to Curves. They will do your measurements. You should weigh yourself once a week. You should be losing every week if you are doing everything right. Switch to the 16 oz water bottles and try having 4 a day. Space it, 1-2 from wakeup till noon, 1-2 between noon and 6 and an extra one or make up what you didn't have after 6. Do you like hot tea? Having a cup after dinner or before bed is wonderful. There are great decaf green teas with orange, honey cammomille, etc out now. Make sure yours is decaf. I sweeten mine with stevia since I feel I have too much splenda in the crystal lite and propel. Also you should try the propel powder packets, you can get them at Walmart.
It is very important to get your sugars in check. You are a young woman, having high blood sugars will be dangerous if you get pregnant and your babies can be in terrible danger. My gestational diabetes caused my son to be 10.9 lbs. and he came out blue - thank god all turned out fine but diabetes is genetic and he can certainly get it.
I had RNY because I didn't want a lousy quality of life which is exactly what happens to old people who don't take charge of their blood sugar control.
If money is not a problem, maybe you can get yourself a personal trainer to put together a home routine to follow every day. If you have FITTV there, there are so many exercise programs that I have on TIVO to do whenever I feel like it. I have an exercise ball, weights, stretch bands and they are always handy for those programs!
Good luck with the losing and the new you.

You are aware that the stress of having surgery can cause even normal people to have higher than normal blood sugar levels, even a late effect of surgery will do this. Changing the content of your food, especially the total grams of sugar in any form will cause your blood glucose levels to increase. Not to scare you, but I'd also be watching for other complications as you are aware, sometimes our blood sugar rises for a few days before other symptoms manifest themselves. In the meantime, I'd opt to increase my water intake and get with the physician about this. You can also contact your hospital diabetic nurse education for more information and ideas.
Don't sweat the small stuff along the way, you are doing so well right now! I'm praying for you.

Thanks very much, Jancy! I appreciate your input. I have increased my liquid intake and am trying to start exercising, too! I see my doc at some point next week, I think--I have to check my calendar--so, I am going to chat with him about all of this. Plus, I think I am going to write down a daily food diary for him, so he can see exactly what I am eating. I am going to be truthful, too, because I want to be doing things correctly. So, I figure, if I am not--I want him to tell me. =)
Thanks again--and I appreciate the prayers--they can never hurt!
Hugs,
Heather

Are you Type 1 or Type 2 diabetic? WLS has no effect on Type 1 I'm afraid.
My sugars were so high in the hospital they were giving me insulin injections every couple hours even though I'd never had them before. However, I was sent home on NO diabetic medications and told not to worry as long as my sugars stayed before 140. Which of course, they didn't. I went back to the endocrinologist who treated me while I was an inpatient and he said just give it more time. My body needed to adjust to the surgery and weight loss, and that I should have my HgA1C repeated in February (3 months post-op) as well as my thyroid levels and he would see me again in March. My random glucose readings aren't bad by I'm still having Dawn Phenomenon and my fasting sugars are in the 150-160 range - much higher than they were before surgery. Go figure!
