I am having my RNY on December 17th, so my question is....If my blood sugar goes LOW what would I drink to make it come back up to normal?

This will depend on what your doctor would want you to do, but I heard some would drink a small glass of orange juice.  My blood sugar hasn't gone that low yet and I am a week out from surgery.  Cindy

thank you for ur reply. What type diabetic are u and how long have u had diabetes?

I've had it for 10 yrs now.  Back in July my Endo said he couldn't tell me 100% which type I was....I was shocked to hear that.

Li' history....1998 I became real sick dropped 35lbs in 1 month didn't eat, only drank water and pee'd every 15 min.  went to the Dr June 5th and was informed I had type 2 diabetes.  ok oral meds started. by Christmas 2001 I dropped down to 134lbs, my family said I looked like the walking dead! I had to CRAWL up 3 flights stairs cause I couldn't walk 12/26/2001 I ended up in the ER....too find out I had KETOACIDOSIS.  and thats why I am labeled type 1 diabetes.  Oral meds and insulin shots started. By May 2004 I had to miscarriages and was then put on an insulin pump, got pregnant carried the baby to term no complications! yay...while pregnant I remember telling my Endo..."I should be pregnant all the time cause my blood sugars were good" he said oh no we don't want that! LOL  So my fear now are sugar lows after the RNY.

Hi, I'm diabetic type 1, and recently type 2 as well. The insulin I was injecting was to high in amount that I became resistent. I was using about 200 units a day, including symlin.

Had RNY in June. Lots of lows - juice (real, no sugar added) works fine, just like doctor had told me. Daily insulin levels are down to between 45 - 60.

Good luck

Once you have surgery you won't be able to do this...but try having a regular soda (not diet). That usually helps....thats what I used to do (be4 WLS...I no longer have type 2 diabetes!!) Best of luck!!!   John

Thank u to everyone.  I am having my RNY in 9 days and wish this liquid diet stage was over already! My last low was a 57 (thursday night) so I drank about a 1/4 can regular orange sunkist and when I woke up my sugar was 181.  That day I adjusted my Basal and I haven't had a low since. YAY  Have a great day everyone ~Jackie
