I'm new to this board and was wondering if anyone had been diagnosed with diabetes after having wls? I have an appt with the doctor next week as I am showing some symptoms of diabetes.

I haven't heard of anyone who has (at least, not without significant weight regain, which you didn't mention, so I'm guessing that's not the case?). The symptoms for diabetes, though, are sort of generic and could be the symptoms of other things as well (thirst, excessive urination, dry skin, etc.). Hopefully, it's something else (and not anything too serious!)!

Nichole,
I have been diagnosed with diabetes which was one of the reasons I decided to have the surgery to avoid if possible. When I eat too many carbs my blood sugar goes high then drops to dangerous levels. I was told by my endocrinologist that it is a result of my surgery (RYGE) and they are studying it at the Cleveland Clinic.I guess I was destined to get diabetes and the pros are worth it but I have to be really careful. Check out Hypoglycemia after Bariatric surgery on the net and see what you get. Good luck, Brenda

Can you describe the symptoms? I guess it is possible to develop Type 1 D at any time ...although it is more common in juveniles. But that woud require some serious bad luck. I hope that is not the case for you

It is not unusual for blood sugar levels to go up in response to surgery, and like fgummett wrote,  you can develop Type I at any time.  It's actually becoming more common among adults now as a true autoimmune disease.
