Glucose Monitors
Are you looking for your very 1st meter/monitor? The reason I'm asking is that lots of companies offer a free trade-in if you have, for example, a different brand than what they offer. Lifescan was at one time giving away free meters. It's not the cost of the meters that they make their money on; it's the strips!! It also depends on what you're looking for in a meter. Do you want a very basic meter or do you want one like mine that has downloadable capabilities? Lifescan is made by Johnson & Johnson, I believe. The One Touch meters have proven quite reliable to me over the years.
Good luck!

How to Get a Free Diabetic Glucose Meter
Many know that insurance takes care of insulin, test strips, and glucose meters. But what if you don't have insurance? Those without insurance that have diabetes need to find other alternatives to getting their supplies as cheaply as possible. And with the cost of test strip****ting unbelievable highs lately, a free glucose meter takes some of the sting of the strips away. There are a couple of ways to get a free diabetic glucose monitor if you do not have insurance. One way is to use a rebate system where you can download a form and take it and your prescription to a pharmacy to get your glucose meter. Those pop up online from time to time depending on the pharmacy for the company that is putting on the promotion. Then there is the 100% free, shipped directly to you method. In 2007 there are several different of these types floating around the web that I will hit upon here in this article. Bayer is a manufacturer that puts out the Contour Blood Glucose monitor. They have a link that has a form that you can fill out without putting in any insurance or medicare information and the monitor is mailed directly to you. I have verified and received one of these this month. If you want to get a Bayer Contour Blood Glucose monitor free then you can follow the highlighted link. Lifescan is a manufacturer that puts out such monitors as the Ultrasmart and the Ultra 2. Both very good monitors. (To catch my roundup on these two monitors check out this article that pits the Ultrasmart against the Ultra 2) Lifescan has a promotion going on in 2007 where they give you one of their monitors, the One Touch Ultra 2, and also gives you a Food DVD that explains the importance of diet in your lifestyle plan. This is a great monitor, simple to use and very high quality. I have also verified this offer and have received one of these this month as well. If you want to get a Lifescan One Touch Ultra 2 monitor free then you can follow this highlighted link. also check out: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct =result&cd=1&q=diabetic+Glucose+meters,+FREE&spell=1 MOST of the time your DIABETIC NURCE EDUCATOR will give you your first meter and make sur you understnad how to use it and when YOU SHOULD be checking. I LOVE my LIFESACN meter, but the stripps are expensive,.... Acucheck http://www.accu-chek.com/us/ states that they now have the LOWEST CO-Pay with most insurance Co. Mine is $30.00 with Anthem..... if the strips were generic the co-pay would only be $10.00. Isulin is also ONLY sold by BRAND so all of that gets very expensive, with/out ins. HI,
I got my one touch ultra smart meter that tracks levels and your exercise and pills. Basically the delux model for $1.00 plus maybe $5.00 for shipping. Yes very very very cheap for the top model on the market today. I had to get my test strips through the ins. But it was so cheap I got a 2nd one to keep at work. and ? hollar back It was on ebay. He probably is still selling them.
Hi Renee,
If you have insurance and prescription coverage I'd try your doctor first. Many doctor's offices (not just specialists) receive them from company representatives the same as they receive the free drug samples they hand out. You don't need a script to get test strips but without it insurance won't pay for the strips. Make sure if you do get a prescription that the doctor specifies the number to times a day you are to test.
My Endocrinologist gave me mine, along with a computer program and necessary cables to be able to download my results, and with a written prescription for the test strips I don't even have a co-pay for them.
Good Luck,
Linda
