Please can anyone give me any suggestions?  I am a 260 pound 35 year old female with many health issues one of which is Diabetes II.  I know am having issues with nerve damage due to my diabetes.  Here is the issue for over the past 2-3 years I have wanted more than anything to have the bypass or lap band surgery done to help my health issues!  Thing is this I can only work part time due to my pain and health issues, therefore I have no health insurance.  I have tried 3 times to get on disability, even with lawyers, and I keep getting turned down.  I NEED and MUST have a WLS to help me get at my "perfect weight" (so the Dr says).  What can I do?  Any suggestions?  My will power is terrible, I know I need to loose weight but my depression says "who cares" and that leaves me in pain DAILY!  I am scared I am going to die like my momma did a few years back!

Hi, I know it feels like you're completely alone right now.  I recommend finding a good support group of friends, family, church, or whatever you can find. I started this journey weighing nearly 370.  5'5" with type1 diabetes.  My foot pain and knee pain was making it so I was uncomfortable even with doing water aerobics.  Just by losing 20 lbs pre op, my knee pain has gone away.  I also work part time, but my husband is in the Navy Reserves and we have our medical insurance through Tricare.  It took some patience and time, but they finally started covering the Lap Band procedure. My best advice is to pray, find a good group of people who support you no matter what and keep positive people around you.  Do your best to keep a positive outlook on life.  If you really want something in life, you have to do the leg work to get it.  Nothing is just handed over.  I wish you the best of luck.

Deb is right!  The only thing she left out is to seek treatment for your depression also.  That's really, really important!  In case you didn't know, diabetes & depression often go hand & hand.  I'm not affected by depression, but with having diabetes now for 36 years, I do having some of the other things we're "blessed" with, including some nerve damage in my feet.  I'm extremely fortunate that mine is not really bad.  It doesn't affect me during the day & only when my blood sugars used to be out of control did the neuropathy affect me at night.   Don't give up!  And in regards to willpower, you may think you don't have any, but when you put your mind to accomplishing a goal that you really, really want, you'll see your willpower suddenly appear!  Good luck to you!
