PRE~OP DIET WITH TYPE II DIABETES
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAD TO DO THE PRE~OP DIET TO STRINK UR LIVER BEFORE SURGERY, & ALSO HAVE TYPE II DIABETES, HOW DID U SURVIVE ON JUSS LIQUIDS WITHOUT UR SUGAR DROPPING LOW, I START MY DIET THIS WEEKEND AND I AM ALREADY ASSUMING THIS WILL BE VERY HARD FOR ME, ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO BUY AND WHAT I CAN DO IF MY SUGAR DROPS??
my lantus was cut in half.. then in half again.. now i am off it completely. my sugar still does get a tad on the low side in the lower 80s.. i keep a close eye on it though. in my instructions for the diet i am on.. i am told to first call the office. if i cannot get a response in a reasonable amount of time, then i am to drink 4 oz of orange juice diluted with 4 oz of water. my surgeon's office addressed this in great detail, and yours should have as well. if you have questions, call them. they should have an on call number during the hours they are closed.
check your sugar often, and try to listen to your body. if you start to feel loopy, something is going on.

Jodi, how are you doing without insulin now? Any low blood sugar attacks? I'm looking forward to being insulin free after surgery. I was hoping my blood sugar will normalize and stay that way. Give me some encouragement with your success story.

Since surgery.. I have been without all my diabetes medications with no problem. I still check often.. now more of a habit than a necessity. I haven't had a BS reading over 95 at any time.. fasting, before meals, after meals, or before bed. I thought people were exaggerating when they said things like this.. but it's so true. I haven't had a problem with a BS low either.. it's like I really just don't have diabetes at all. I feel like I have been given a new lease on life.
Although technically, there is no 'cure' for diabetes.. so I will always be classified as a diabetic.. I truly feel like I have been cured. It's feels wonderful!
Are you headed for surgery as well? What type, and when? Good luck!
Where is Woodhaven in MI?
There are 3 surgeons here in Grand Rapids that do the sleeve.. all the surgeons at MMPC.
That is where I had my surgery with Dr. Kemmeter. Dr. Foote is known for loving the VSG surgery and is a big supporter of it. Dr. Baker does it also.. a good friend of mine that I met here on OH just had a sleeve with Dr. Baker and is doing well.
I am sure there are others in the state.. but I know for sure that MMPC has a comprehensive program and is a Center of Excellence.
Good luck finding a good surgeon!
Thanks, Jodie. If I wasn't so limited by my insurance---BCN----I'd go anywhere there's a good, experienced surgeon who will do the sleeve! Dr. Pleatman wants $1,500 out of pocket over and above what insurance will pay him for the surgery, and he wants it BEFORE he'll operate. That's out of my price range. There is one more surgeon at Harper Hospital in Detroit that will do the sleeve, but I have yet to obtain his name and number for a consultation. The coordinator of the program is on vacation for a week. I'm hoping this other surgeon will not charge that much, if he charges anything extra at all. Beaumont only charges $600. If I don't get satisfaction at Harper Hospital, I'll just change from BCN to Blue Cross during enrollment this fall and I'll seek out the surgeons in Grand Rapids. Suddenly, I'm not in a hurry to have surgery before the end of summer. I'm willing to wait for the right surgeon and the right time.
