Anyone on Byetta? What to do pre and post op?

I have gotten a lot of confusing information from my doctor's office so I thought I would ask here since tomorrow I start clear liquids.  On Wed I am havign VSG.  I now I am supposed to stop Metformin/Glucophage with the clear liquids.  I also take Byetta 10 mg. twice a day. It is an injection you take before meals twice a day but it is not insulin.  Has anyone here been on Byetta before VSG or otehr surgery?  What were you advised to do preop and post op?

hi, I do take Byetta and Lantus insulin. I am also a nurse.  Now, for myself, i haven't had to do the liquid diet pre-op. but I do know that i won't be taking it the night before or day of my surgery.  I believe I will take the Lantus on the night before but at 1/2 dose.  I have yet to hear back from my endocrinologist.  I am having the vsg.  jac

Thanks for writing back.  I am 8 days post op (VSG).  I haven't had any glugophage or Byetta in 9 days.  In the hospital they gave me insulin because the surgery can elevate your numbers a bit but I haven't needed anything since coming home.  All my glucose levels since coming home ranged from 111-129 until yesterday.  Amazing!  Yesterday and today I am eating slightly more real food (soft but real) and see my glucose levels inching up toward 150 after meals. This is still better than before surgery, but I want to keep those levels low.  My doc called in an RX for the lower dose Byetta and I may start taking it before meals again.  As I drop more pounds, perhaps I will be able to go off everything!  Jac, are you on the VSG messge board too???  Good luck to you!!
