What Types of Protein Drinks/Powders?
I don't know if this was correct or not, but I didn't care. I had a low and so I took a glucose tablet, crushed it in my pill crusher and ate the powder. Within 10 minutes though my sugar went from 53 to 135. That's a huge climb for just 2 tablets. Maybe I had an artifical low reading. I'm just taking it slow and easy. I'm not drinking protein powder, but maybe I should. I'll have to look into that. My husband did purchase a protein shake that has only 2gm of carb in it. I'll have to look it up if you're interested.
Heaviest: 370 Surgery Day 4/25/08: 340 Goal: 185
When was your surgery? I have chewed very carefully 1 glucose tablet or a few sips of apple juice to cover my lows. Right now, I'm experiencing more highs than lows because my endo adjusted my insulin since I was having really, really low lows!!! 42's!!! After drinking a protein shake, like Unjury w/1 fruit exchange, i.e., 1/2 frozen banana, even though I am bolusing insulin, my sugars would shoot up to 200+. So, they advised me to skip the fruit. I'm trying that now. The protein powders don't have enough carbs in them to need extra insulin (usually), so I just bolus for the skim milk or 1% milk that I use. We'll see how I do. They also told me that I could start on pureed veggies or pureed Progresso soup. I'm supposing that they were talking about the vegetable types; not the meat or pasta ones.
