Dear Christal, I don't match your criteria since I'm on an insulin pump, but I have been trying to find other Type I diabetics that are or have been through bariatric surgery.  I feel like I'm the only one out here!!!  Are you having lap-band or bariatric by-pass surgery (or something else)?   I wish you the very best of luck & health! I AM HAVING LAP RNY.  MY DOCTOR HAS PERFORM 6 SURGERIES BEFORE ME AND SAYS HE HAS ONE WHO IS TYPE ONE WHO NO LOGER TAKES MEDICATION ALSO  HE IS A VERY QUALIFIED DR. HIS NAME IS DR. SUH AND YOU MORE THAN WELCOM TO CHEK OUT HIS LINK ON MY PAGE. MY SURGERY IS ON THE 11TH.  SINCE WE ARE BOTH TYPE 1 I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE LAP BAND DOES NOT WORK FOR US . THANK YOU FOR YOUR WELL WISHES! CHRISTAL IN CA

Hi all, I am a type 1 diabetic (on a pump).  I had lap RNY surgery 7/31/07.  I am currently taking less than half the insulin I took before the surgery.  If you have any questions see my profile or feel free to message me.

Hey Gretchen,

I'm also type I on a pump! Did you see Sharon's reply? She's another type 1 on a pump!

I'm type 1 also!  I have an insulin pump but my endocrinologist suggested I stop using it until I get out of surgery and into a more normal eating pattern.  I'm 3 weeks out of surgery (gastric RNY) and I'm doing great!  My BS during the hospital was elevated, but that was due to A) My body had just been sawed into and B) the idiots had a glucose drip going in one of my IV's....so aside from that everything went well and you shouldn't worry too much over your sugars, just be sure and CHECK THEM OFTEN!! can't stress that enough, I still check mine every few hours just to be on the safe side.  Oh, and don't worry about having a low blood sugar b/c all you do is get you some Glucose Gel and you eat a little of that at a time and it should come right back up!
