No longer prediabete
Oh, so sorry! Well, you know that if you take immediate action now and get that diabetes under tight control very quickly you can preserve a lot of your pancreas and it may be possible to get off the medication (if you are on medication.)
There is a great book out there on the web called "28 days to Diabetic Control" and I used it under my doctor's supervision, and was able to come off metformin in three weeks.
And as I've told everyone else, once you come off medication you can never tell yourself that you are cured. There is no CURE for diabetes, once you get the diabetes under control you can keep it under control for as long as possible, but the diabetes is insidious and is always there. This is because the pancreas has lost the majority of it's beta cells by the time you are diagnosed and will never, ever grow back. You will be a diabetic in tight control, but never cured unless you get a transplant or some cloned cells, or if science finds a way to regenerate those lost beta cells.
Good for for getting your surgical date, until then focus on getting your numbers back into normal range and keep them there... you will survive surgery much, much better and have a much lower risk for problems.
