I was wonder if any of you  have knowledge of this....I have had insulin resistance/PCOS and was put on metformin and actos 5 years ago. It helped me manage blood sugar, reduce weight and helped me concieve my twins. My BMI has been 35 or higher for 5 years also...Will this suffice for the Aetna PPO criteria? My surgeons off ice had good feelings that it would.I also developed gestational diabetes with the pregnancy and then it never went away..I am currently on Byetta... Thanks, KIM

Kim, I have insulin resistance too and I have had it for a little over a year however I'm affraid that mine has turned into full blown diabetes I go to the dr. tomorrow but my blood sugars have been over 200 recently.  I have Humana Choice PPO and I'm sure that they consider insulin resistance a co-morbidy.  Good luck on your journey.

Kim, Hi, I am doing ok I did go to my dr. Thurs. and she ran a lot of test on me and I got my results yesterday.  My sugar is high as well as this 3 month avg. test they do so she is increasing my Metformin to 1000mg 2x a day which I hate metformin it makes me sick especially at a high doesage.  My liver test was 3x the amount that it's supposed to be and it's been that way for a while so I have to go see a specialist and see whats going on with my liver I do know that I have fatty liver and also I have had an enlarged liver.  My thyroid was low also so she is increasing my thyroid meds as well.  Hey the good news she had for me was that all my cholestorol levels were really good.   How are you doing?

Dear Kimberly, It sounds like your situation makes you qualified for the surgery.  I also had Aetna (POS) .  I had a BMI of 39 and I have diabetes and I qualified.  Like you, I had gestational diabetes that never went away.  They say that happens in about 1 to 2% of pregancies.  Too bad we were in that minority.  I took Byetta for a while before surgeyr.  It really worked well.  Since having surgery, I don't need it because I have no appetite.  Good luck to you.  Hillary.

Hillary ,did you have to do a 3 mo or 6 mo diet plan? What was getting approval for you like? How are you doing with your weight loss? Were they very picky with all your records and everything...My surgeons office sais I should do a 6 month plan because the insuarnce companys are trying to cut back on all the WLS people are trying to have..They feel the ins looks  at 6 mo better than 3. Any advice would be appreciated. KIM

Kim, I had a four month plan where I saw my primary doctor, the psychologist and the nutritionist.  I didn't lose that much weight during that time but I did my best.  I had to have all the doctors send the records to my surgeon's office and the surgeon's office submitted all the paperwork for mem.  I was approved one week after they submitted the paperwork.
