I have had dibettes since my 40th bday so five years now and my sugar has never been regulatted properly. I have gone from doctor to dr to dr and they try every combination possible. My sugar used to run from 585-35now it is in the 225-285 range and that is taking actos plus twice daily, Byetta 10 mcg twice a day, and 35 units of lantus at bead.
I can't take too much metformin as the tummy gets sick and poopy comes. I am a realtor and had to pay a fas station attnedent 20 bucks to use the bathroom as I was having a hideous metformin moment LOL.
I am hoping that my RNY surgery will do away with most of this medication....FYI Byetts didn't help me lose weight after the first two weeks

I have been taking metformin 500 mg twice daily since my diagnosis in early 2005. Later that year my doctor added 10 mcg Byetta.
I just recently learned from my endocrinologist when he made a comment that the Advicor (for high cholesterol) increases glucose levels. I had taken that medication before the early diagnosis of diabetes.
I just got over GI problems related to antibiotics and couldn't take any medication for a few days. I had no glucose problems without the cholesterol medication. I discovered that I have more energy without those medications. It's time to go back and look up the side effects for each medication again.
I want to go back and ask my endocrinologist more about all of this and maybe check and see if I still need the Advicor.
Obesity and weight problems are not a simple is they appear. The more I learn and research, the more factors I find that are related to it.
