morning, just wanted to know who all was taking byetta and what other diabetes meds combined. i am taking byetta and metformin and my blood sugar is still 220 fasting.... i take the 5mcg dose of byetta. any suggestions??

Hi, I take 10 mcg of Byetta twice a day, Avandia, 4 mg twice a day, Glybruide (although I think Glimipiride did a better job) twice a day and 2000mg of metformin at night. I use Humalog insulin when needed. So far, A1C is 5.6. Good luck...diabetes just sucks.

DS on 05/19/09

Diabetes recently retruned after i gained almost 40 pounds after RnY in 4/05. Any ways, I was put on Byetta a month ago and also taking metformin. I was on 5 mcg, but yesterday the endocrinologist increased to 10 mcg twice a day. This doc thinks I may lose enough weight with taking Byetta that I will not need a revision to DS surgery, which is what I am seeking. Is it possible to lose a lot of weight on Byetta? Actos also made me increase my weight like 10 pounds in a little over a week. Metformin doesn't seem to be much better alone.

Byetta is great for loosing weight. I am not hungry and when I start eating I don't want much. I have lost 20 pounds in the last two months. Hope it works well for you.

DS on 05/19/09

Oh wow, well for me it is not working like that so far. I was only on 5 mcg (one injection) twice a day and just started on two injections twice a day. I was nauseated last night after the 10 mcg dose. So far today I am fine. I definitely am not losing, have gained at least 5 lbs since a couple of weeks ago. Are you "dieting" at the same time? I have no willpower right now. I am having trouble cutting out all carbs. Do you eat carbs?

I am not dieting now. I don't eat as much, because I am not hungry, but I eat what ever I want.

I took Byetta for about 2 months last spring and was never so sick as I was then. The 5 mcg was fine but when I increased to the 10 it was unreal! Are you still taking it?

Yes I still take Byetta. It is not bothering me in the least. My blood sugars are better than when not on it. I ran out a couple of weeks ago and my sugars were in the 300's, now on it my sugars are int the 140-170 fasting in the early morning. No perfect at all, but so much better.

Hi, I'm a newly diagnosed diabetic. I tried metforim, Actos, and glucaphage and couldn't take them - they gave me hideous dir. I'm not on Lantos and still don't have my BG controlled...I'm upping the dose every three days with doctor's orders till my BG gets in the normal range. Is Beyetta the same as Lantas? I would love to lose some weight before my WLS surgery. Betty

I don't know what Lantos is, but I have had wonderful results with Byetta and weight loss. I have lost 21.5 lbs in the last 2 months. It is not doing much for my sugar though. Hope you have good results with it.
