Sherry, I'm sorry no one's replied to your post. I rarely visit this board, but here's what I can tell you. 887% of diabetics who have the gastric bypass (RNY) eventually experience remission of all symptoms of diabetes. I have no clue how they deal with bloodsugar problems until that happens---sorry. 98+% of all diabetics who have the DS (duodenal switch) experience complete remission, often within days or even HOURS after surgery. And DSers don't dump, so eating/drinking sugary things to raise bloodsugar is no problem for them. Hope this helps!

I am in the process of seekinig out the DS after have RnY 2.5 years ago. I was so wrong to have that surgery when in reading about the DS, it seems like the "better" surgery to go with. No dumping at all, better chance of weight staying off, more normal eating with no blind stomach, and 98% cure for diabetes. I would definitely check out the DS forum here on OH and read for yourself. You will be glad you did.

Hi  if you are not on any diabetic meds you won't have that low, glyburide or any drug in that class will cause low BS if you don't eat right and after WLS you can't eat as many carbs when I was on glyburide after my WLS I had lows and I drank OJ followed by protein then my Endo put me back on small dose of metformin and I have no more lows. I had the RNY for my diabetes and I am on less meds. I have never tested to see if I can tolerat esugar I am afraid to I had this surgery so I would  dump if I ate sugar or to many bad carbs and I won't test it because if I can tolerate sugar I will gain my weight back and if I can't I could vomit for hours so I just keep telling myself I will get sick being diabetic for 20 yrs ther are so many SF products out there that I don't feel deprived
