Byetta, Type II and 6 years post op

My endocrinologist wants me to add Byetta to my daily regiment.  I was diagnosed with Type II one year ago - five years after RNY surgery.  In reading the literature about Byetta, I think it will make me feel full very quickly - like I did when surgery was new.  Any advice?? Thanks in advance for your help.

I haven't had my lapband surgery yet, (June 6) but I have been on Byetta for over a month, and it did a remarkable job lowering my sugar levels, as they were getting out of control.  I didn't really noitice any feelings of fullness.  I was told it could possibly help w/ losing weight, but only like 10-15 lbs a year.  I just started my 2 week pre surgery liquid protein diet, and I have had to cut out the byetta altogether, because my sugar levels have droped considerably.  Don't know if this was any help..... My doctor put me on Byetta because of the side effects of feeling full.  I unfortantely did not have this side effect at all, so my doctor took me off of it.  I am pre-op so I don't know if that makes a difference.

I was on byetta for approx. 11 months pre-op and went off of it post op.  I am now 7 1/2 months post op, 82 lbs off with about 6 more to go and still take 3 oral meds for diabetes.  My pancreas is damaged and cannot repair itself.  The byetta protects the pancreas.  It is supposed to help you lose weight but what it does is make you naseaus....after a few months the naseau goes away and you can eat normally again.  My endo tells me that avandia is the best oral med for diabetes...I added it (2mg.) in addition to metformin and januvia and my blood sugars are finally under control.

Hey there, You're going on the lizard spit! I was on Byetta for awhile.  I liked the drug.  It didn't make me feel full quickly but it slowed down the digestion so that I didn't feel hungry so soon after a meal.  Thus I didn't eat as much as each meal.  Unfortunately, my Type II diabetes was so bad that I had to switch to insulin.  W

I LOVED BYETTA !!! This stuff really worked for me.  I was on it last year for approximately 6 months.  I lost around 30 pounds using it with a combination of glipizide and metphormin.  Of course, I was trying to be a good girl and were drinking protien shakes (chocolate shake, a banana, skim mil****~ all blended loved those). But, because we moved from San Diego Cali up to Sacramento Cali, I have to find a doctor up here to want to prescribe it too me again.   My only downfall with it was.... I HATE SHOTS!!!  But even that you can get used to after a while. Good luck !!! Jennifer

I no longer take byetta.  I am still diabetic even though I have lost 85# and am only 3 lbs from goal weight.  I take 2000 mg. of metformin, 100 mg. of januvia and 2 mg. of avandia.  My blood sugars are perfectly in control now.  I didn't like the byetta because I always forgot to take it before we went out for dinner.  I didn't know of bariatric patients taking it post op.

My Byetta was just increased to 10 mcg twice a day from 5 mcg. I haven't noticed a decrease in my eating or any weight loss. In fact, have gained another 5 pounds in the last few weeks. My endocrinologist thinks it may help me lose enough weight so I won't need a revision to a DS, which is what I really want and wish I had done it instead of RnY 2.5 years ago. The diabetes had returned with the weight gain after the RnY.
