I was wondering if any of you were diagnosed with kidney disease whether diabetes related or for other reasons?  If so other then lab work, what other tests have you had?? Thanks in advance...

Before my wls, I was diagnosed with cancer of the ureter and had to have my right kidney and ureter removed.  My kidney Dr. checks my cretanine level every 3 months or so.  Since my surgery, it has remained pretty stable.  I'm a diabetic and that is why the close surveillance.  I wish you a good journey.  To date, I have lost 99 lbs and am only 22 lbs from my goal.  Just hange in there and everything will be fine.

Thank you so much for replying to me.  I was diagnosed with beginning stages of kidney disease (diabetes related) last month.  I am just trying to sink in all info that I can before finally having my surgery.  I didn't know how things worked after wls since I know we with compromised kidneys have to watch protein intake and stuff.  It's great seeing that ur function is remaining stable even after the surgery.  That gives me more hope.  Thank u so much. Hugs Joy

My diabetes educator had my kidneys checked with my last set of labs they did. The results were high, but she said that was because my A1C was high and that when it comes down the kidney stuff should come down. This was at the beginning of January. Now at my last visit, she all of a sudden has become concerned with it and wants me to go see my doctor to get on some new medications and stuff. I'm wondering why she's all of a sudden having a change of heart. She wants my doctor to change the medication I'm on for my blood pressure and she wants him to up my dose of Crestor from 10mg to 20mg. *shrug* Lori

My A1C wasnt terribly high but my pcp added an extra diabetes med.  He also put me on a med for my kidneys which is blood preasure medicine.  Funny thing is, with all my health issues my b/p has always been great and now that I am on the blood preasure med for the kidneys it goes low at times. He said the levels on kidneys was rather high and ofcourse I am spilling protein into my urine.  I go back for more labs in a month.  Guess I will keep my fingers crossed.
