The Results are In (well most of them..)
I just called my doctors office today. I had 4 preop tests left before I can get a surgery date. I finished them last week and first part of this week.
1) LOTS of labs
2) Chest Xray
3) Abdominal Ultrasound
4) Overnight use of a Pulse Ox
The labs came back SUPER. I am diabetic and got diagnosed in June. I have brought my hgba1c from 9.1 at diagnosis down to 6.9 with medicine and dietary changes, this is considered non-diabetic range = excellent control of my diabetes.
My cholesterol is down from 204 to 143, HDL is 36 and LDL 89, yeah! This is with lipitor another drug I got put on 3 months ago.
Chest xray was clean.
Ultrasound said I had a fatty liver (duh, I am obese and this is normal).
Pulse ox not in yet (fingers crossed it is ok). Don't want a sleep study, cpap, etc. Have to wear the cpap for 30 days prior to surgery. Don't want anything delaying me! Nurse at my office said she would follow up on that today.
I am so happy, granted I know this is with medications, but I am so happy that I could get as healthy as possible before my surgery!
I have had to wait amost 11 months total before approval, but I was able to get myself prepared for surgery - lost 30 pounds so far. Hoping with the 2 week clear liq diet I have to be on I will lose 10-20 more!
Just had to share. Say a prayer for me about my pulse ox..
Melissa,
Congratulations on great results!! You sound very anxious and excited....its a great feeling to have knowing everything is falling into place.
Just curious why your dr thought a 6.9 AIC was non-diabetic? I always thought the labs showing lower than a 4-5%. Also you have to wear a CPAP without a sleep study? How do they know what setting to put it on? I hope your other tests come back just as positive.
Wonderful that you've lost 30 lbs pre-op......you're going to do wonderful with the RNY!
Take care,
Wendy
Wendy,
He isn't saying im not a diabetic.. he saying that anything below 7 is considered a very good hgba1c.. like a nondiabetic would be. I don't know if I totally agree with this as my average blood sugar is prob in the 130's to 140's with a HGbA1C of 6.9 (fastings are in the low 100's to 120's). Granted anything lower than where I am now is even better.. I think what I am trying to say is that it puts me in great control of it for right now. Granted who wouldn't want to be lower and with surgery I hope to accomplish this soon. But considering I just got diagnosed 4 mos ago, I am proud of what I have accomplished, I have worked *REALLY* hard. Sorry if I didn't make a whole lot of sense. I was just so excited when I wrote that post.
As for the CPAP, I don't have to wear one because my doctor does an overnight pulse oximeter test first. If that doesn't show any drop in oxygen levels when wearing it all night then you don't have to have a sleep study or get fitted for a cpap b/c you are considered not having sleep apnea. So I don't even have to go to that stage and I am so happy about this!!!!
Sorry to confuse...
Melissa
