Low blood sugar problems and no meds???
Had my surgery in Dec. I am down approx 100 ibs and feeling great. I am off all meds although I was type II for about 10 years and ended up on actos post surgery.
I have been off the actos about 3-4 weeks now but I am still having low blood sugar episodes. I will wake up at night shaky and sweating and be in the 50-60 range. Last evening about 2 hours after dinner I felt shaky and tested and was at a 49.
Should I be this low when I am on no meds at all? Is this normal....?
I will call my PCP today but I wanted to see if anyone here has had this experience.
Congratulations on your 100lb weight loss! It sounds like you have reactive hypoglycemia. I know a few post ops who started having this after several months out. My surgeon and dietician told them if they are above 50 mg/dl to take a protein shake. If below 50 mg/dl then take a couple of glucose tabs, recheck bg after 15 minutes and then follow with a protein shake.

I had my RNY in January and still struggle with the low blood sugar episodes especially in the middle of the night. I've even had some inthe 30's Anyway, I have started to have a bedtime snack and that seems to do the trick keeping me stable till morning. I'll usually have an oz or two of lowfat cheese, or a protein shake if I haven't gotten enough protein in for the day.
Make sure you keep a bottle of glucose tablets handy for emergencies.
Good luck,
Ronna

I have the same problem.I am 2.5 yers after WLS. I was taking Meds.before the WLS. I am of the MEDS.for the last 2 years. About 2-3 month ago I stared to have problems with my sugar level be very low around 45-50.I get dizzy, shaky.I started to eat a little more and I gained 12-15 lb.
I do not know what is better to have low sugar level and eat less or to have normal sugar level and gain weigth.I hate myself b/c of the weigth i gained. But when I feel dizzy, shaky I am so skared that one of the days I will be taken to the Hospital. On one ocation my husband had to call 911 and the wanted to take me to ER.
So this is my story. If you any ideas let me know.
All the best EK
