I can keep my pump on ...
during surgery! My surgeon, endocrinologist, the hospitals WLS program nurse practioner, and anaestesiologist all agree that I should keep my insulin pump on during my surgery. I am so pleased by this. When I went to the walk-thru and met the NP I gave her the manual to my pump and showed her the easiest ways to stop delivery and how to give me a bolus if I run high. I will try to carefully document how everything goes with the pump and surgery on my profile for other type 1 pumpers.

Elizabeth!
Yay, I'm so happy for you...I know that having your pump on was very important for you to have on. I'm excited that your surgery is in a few days, please have someone e-mail me to let me know how you're doing...my thoughts and prayers will be with you on Wednesday for a quick and speedy recovery!!

PS I'm glad to see a face now on your profile, you have a beautiful smile!!!
That's awesome!! When I first saw the surgeon last year he said I could leave mine on too...(I told him I did NOT want it removed if I didn't have to!) He said I could just insert the cannula in the back, so it wouldn't interfere where they were going to be. I'm so happy for you!! Do you already have your date? How do you find the group meetings?? I'll most likely be starting in November so this is pretty new to me.
Marie
Hi Marie,
My surgery date is this coming Wednesday. My surgeon has support group meetings for bypass patients twice a month. Check with your surgeon if he/she can recommend a support group. I think that meeting regularly with others that gone through the surgery is very important for success.
