Help! Crisis Mode
I have my open rny scheduled for Oct 25/06, and I have to admit I am the most pathetic diabetic patient known to man kind. I never take my sugar readings, over half the time do I ever take my insulin shots.
It just dawned on me today that they might not allow me to have my surgery in October if I don't get these sugar levels in orderin the next couple of weeks. My morning levels are about 16 and night the rest of the day is over 20.
I am in trouble right! I am not going to have my surgery am I?
Have you tried working with your dietician and endocrinologist on a low carb diet before your surgery? That would help to bring your numbers down. I can't find my conversion table but I think 16 mmol is close to the equivalent of 280 - 300 mg/dL and 20 is above 350 mg/dL. It is best to talk with your surgeon to find out what blood glucose range he/she is comfortable having you go under anestaesia at. Talk with your surgeon soon rather than later!

While in the hospital your diabetes will be taken care of..but if it's extreme high - they may not operate because that woud put you in danger. Since you recognize you are not doing the right thing - it's time to get on track. The power and tools are in your hands...if you choose not to use it then. You need to be more compliant with meds because I see that you will also be in trouble post surgery - as you may not be willing to take vitamins, and follow a proper eating plan...but Im hoping to be wrong on this.
So get on the right path, missy!!!!!! Wishing you the best...HUGS
Hi,
PLEASE, PLEASE get control of your blood sugar! I lost over 100 pounds due to being dx with diabetes. I've gained 50 back and my hands and feet are tingling terribly.
Diabetes is a horrible, mean spirited disease, and it will get you with numbers like that.
Don't be stupid like me. I'm hitting the diet and exercise thing again with hopes of reducing my pain.
