I had RNY 9/03 I lost 175# in first two years, got a diagnois of Crohns (which I believe I've had for over 10 yrs). In the last 6 months have gained 60# back, saw a new doctor 2 weeks ago, he did some blood work my hemoglobin alc was high (don't know how high) so he says I have diabetes now. It does run in my family, so all doctors checked sugar levels constantly it was always below 70. Could this be?? I am not eating right, I'm not getting enough protein and haven't been for about a year due to the Crohns, I can barely keep any food down. Any input? I can't believe I went through all this and will still have diabetes. Nut

I have diabetes or had the high sugars now I have the lows..which is no better fun either. My hemoglobin alc is still a bit high...when it came down to it...my carb intake was not great not due to eating alot of breads etc...but candy, and sampling junk food (not in big levels but still)..anyway...point being the eating wasn't right either..which is where you are at. One thing I can say about "disesas" and that anything goes as we are all different...but you have to understand that just simply having type of wls isn't a cure all. Someone will still have cancer or thyroid problems or fibromyalgia or whtever..or diabetes despite having surgery. Look at this way - diabetes is everyone's problem..the young, middle aged, old, fat and skinny. That it can go away sometimes is kinda luck depending on the individual. Don't regret what you've done..you've done amazingly well and if you get back on track with a nutritionist/dietician's help you can improve your chances even if your diabetes doesn't go completely away. As my endocrinologist said today - once a diabetic always a diabetic....just a different kind this time around. Hugs
