Type II and Liquid Diet I Started Today
I am very new, about one month, with Type II Diabetes and started my 10 day liquid pre-op diet which is Aug 31 (RNY). With the pill I take twice a day my blood sugar level has been about 115 upon waking and 80 to 90 mid-day. Evenings is typically 90 or so but occasionally 110 to 120.
Anything special I need to do or watchas a diabetic? All I can have is liquid protein drinks, sf popsicles, and crystal light. I do take a vitamin as well.
Also, this has nothing to do with the diet, which I just started this morning, but sometimes I get a little shakey and feel funny like I need to eat something and then I feel better. I have wondered if it has to do with blood surgar level. Anyone else had this problem?
Regards,
Jim
Congratulations, you'll be on your way next week with the RNY. A 10 day liquid pre-op diet seems extreme (in my opinion), but every surgeon is different. Try and take some protein before surgery, I drank 3 protein shakes a day, in order to heal better after the RNY, and get those protein stores up.
If your taking the same diabetic meds as you did before the pre-op diet, you're probably experiencing low blood sugar since your eating less food/carbs. Your blood sugar readings are great, however, being on a liquid diet, it seems as if you would be experiencing low blood sugar. When you feel shakey, have you tested your blood sugar? If its low, try taking a few glucose tabs.
Good luck, next week!

You feeling shaky is your body telling you that you BS are probably low. Check it immediately and have something to drink/eat that is acceptable on your liquid diet. I was diabetic as well, my blood sugars have drastically changed post-op and today is only my fourth day out of the surgery.
Take care and Good Luck!
