I am almost 2 years post op had ryn on 8/3/2004. I have been diabetic since age 18. Before surgery i weighed @ 262. I was taking 250 units of insulin and pills. Now at 2 years out I'm at 190-195. Been here since 8 months post op. Down to 30-40 units of insulin and still on pills. Has anyone taking insulin still, stopped losing weight this early? I asked my surgeon why, and he said he could not explain it. If you have any advice i would appreciate it. Thanks!!! Bronda

I am 5 years 3 months rny on 2/13/01. Diabetic since I 1995. I was taking insulin in the morning an in evening (two different types) and 7 glipizide and 2 metaform daily. I started at 280 - hit a lot of plateaus I stopped losing about 18 months after surgery. Was down to 200 - just recently gained a few pounds. I was off all diabetic meds for about 4 years - last year went back on 2 metform and 4 glipizdie. I was 59 when i had surgery - they say that when you are older you lose slower. I also heard that diabetics lose slower. Don't know if it is true or not.

I am two years post op too. I have type 1 diabetes and use an insulin pump and take about 30-40 units a day as well. I have been taking insulin for 24 years. I have lost a total of 100 lbs since 4/04. I just had my plastics in 3/06 and am healing well. I stopped my quick weight loss in about 9 months too. My bmi was 41 starting out at 240 lbs and now I am at 140 lbs. My surgeon's explaination was that I started at a lower bmi
