Hi Susan, I lost 100 pounds without WLS by following Low Carb Dieting for Dummies. It is a diet based on fruits, vegatables, whole grains and lean meats. I really like it. It also got my blood sugar fasting from 175 to 95, and my A1C from 10.2 to under 6. I hope you give it a try. However, I will say that I am struggling with it now. I've gained back 20 pounds because I am eating candy again. ARGHHHH. Let me know if you try it. Ann

Wow Ann way to go! I will see if I can locate this on the web and try to follow along! Are you currently taking meds for the diabetes? When I 1st found out last Sept I had this, I lost 35 pounds and gained 5 back. I still have at least another 120-130 that I would like to loose. Anyone else with a good diet?

Hi Susan, I am not taking medication and was lucky enough to not every have to take it. Although, as I get older I probably will. My endo doctor said because I acted so quickely I most likely saved my pancreas If I eat correctly and exercise my blood sugar is within acceptable numbers. If I don't it spikes to about 180 with a fasting of 120. I need to keep that in mind next time I reach for the chocolate! Keep us posted! Ann

Susan, I follow a similar diet. It is closest to the Schwarzbein diet. Only eat what you could find outside and pick or kill and eat--fruits, vegies, lean meats, healthy fats, dairy, grains, no pasta or breads or very small quantities--also, organic/preservative free foods as much as possible. By getting rid of the preservatives, I lost the last 25 lbs. It worked for me and I still follow this almost every meal and snack. Also, just from personal experience, I eat no more than 30 carbs per meal or snack. That way my blood sugar doesn't jump so high that I need more insulin to cover it. I eat about 5 times a day.
