For those of you who have gotten back into dating I have a Question for you. Have you dated other persons who have had WLS or are you looking for someone who hasnt had the surgery?? I havent dated since my surgery and I am wondering if I would feel more comfortable being with someone who knows the day to day routine of a post op. I just wonder if it would all be just too overwhelming for someone who hasnt been there. I am so missing the physical contact of hugs and kisses from a special man. Hugs, Laura

Laura, I still have a few things I need to work on myself before I jump into the dating pool but I would think that if the person you're dating is a good person, it wouldn't matter if they knew about WLS or not. I would think you would want to find someone who is patient and tolerant of our limitations and special needs. I do understand missing the physical contact, I've not dated in seventeen years. I've been MO for that long and haven't had sufficent self esteem to share my life with anyone else. Now that I've had WLS, I'm starting to feel more positive about myself and looking forward to some companionship a little ways down the road. Good luck! Toni Lap RNY 3/21/05 267/195

Hi Laura -- How would you find someone who had WLS to date???? Support groups??? I, too thought this would be the best of both worlds: empathy and loneliness. It would be nice to connect but I'm not waiting for that... I figure it's like eating like a thin person, exercising and moving like thin people do -- why not socialize like other people?? I have just entered the dating scene mid-December (my surgery was 10/11/05). I have had some concerns like eating out, drinking with meals, gagging on something that doesn't go down. Well I found if I relax and just have a good time enjoying the moment, things go just fine. I take home a doggie bag and have not mentioned A THING about weight-loss except I have increased my exercise program. THAT"S IT right now -- no one needs more info. Even Oprah counseled don't talk about the WLS on the first few dates -- there's no need, just enjoy how good you feel!!! Have fun -- life's too short and haven't we wasted enough time already? The best to you Laura CC
