Homemade Soaps

I make Homemade Soaps and do Craft Shows. I love homemade soaps and will never buy storebought soap again. I really enjoy making them and trying different scents and colors. Terri

Hey, I love to make soaps to. I usually make soaps and candles to match and put them in a decreative basket for Christmas. My problem is, I spend more making the soap than I would if I bought soap! How can I save money, I shop at Michaels and I thought that was the cheapest place, till my credit card bill came LOL!!! Any ideas?

What kind of soap are you making? I make mine in my crockpot and use lye and oils,it is ready to use the next day if need be but is better if it sets for a few days or a week to harden more. I have suppliers all over the US but your right Michaels is too high for even melt and pour soaps. Linda San Antonio,Tx

This is an old topic but figured what the heck! I thought of making my own also as i have so many allergies to different soaps and usually buy the glycerin types. Not sure after looking at the starter kits at Micheals if it's cheaper to buy them already made or make my own!

Growing up on a farm in Nebraska, I had a depression era mom.  I use to help her make soap from things most of us today would discard as trash.  All she sprang for store bought was the lye.  Of course this was more laundry detergent version soap.  It was better than the ivory snow soap you bought.  I made some once after I got married, and my mother in law had a fit I would use such stuff.  Maybe with the economy like it is, it is a way to start cutting costs again.

Hi... I grew up watching my grandmother  making soap and started doing it myself about 5 years ago.  My family loves all natural homemade soap... we haven't brought any of that fake stuff since I started.
