Topic: Severe, intense chest pain and spasms through to my back
I am now 10 weeks post roux en Y. This has now happened to me twice. Both times i was in bed laying down when the pain started. The first time i sat up and tried to drink water through the episode. I thought i was having a heart attack, pain in my chest (between my breast), the episode lasted about 30 minutes and then it went away. I didn't go see my doctor because i figured it was nothing. Fast forward 2 weeks to this weekend when it happened again but this time it litterally felt like i was having LABOR in my chest. The pain was that intense and then it actually spasmed as well. I just knew i was having a heart attack. I couldn't sit down or even lean over because it hurt worse. I nearly passed out from the pain. The attack lasted over 30 minutes. I went to my gastric doctor and he felt certain it was just "dumping syndrome" without the vomiting. I hadn't eaten anything prior to the even though so i am having a hard time believing that is what it is. Has anyone else has this problem?!

What any surgeon would say....some patients don't tolerate meat as well as others and that I should find other recipes high in protein to fill the void. I told him I wasn't satisfied with the surgery and his reply was that he only has done one reversal in his career! And I wasn't a candidate for one...he seems to think my weight loss will taper off now that I'm reaching my one year post-op. While I was waiting to see him there were several patients waiting and they all had different problems to share. One lady was actually on a feeding tube, and looked worn out, frustrated and thinner than me. There was a lady two years out and told me that she could eat somedays and other days she just can't even smell foods. It seems we all have horror to share and not everyone has the same outcome. I hope you can find a new surgeon soon. I tried to switch surgeons and could not find any to take me on. I know exactly how you feel!!!!!
Love, Marie.

Marie....
I feel your pain I went from a 22 to an 8 in 6 months...My father said I look like a skeleton... I can eat a few solid things but not a whole lot...normally soft and mashed items and weak and tired too. Sometimes my vitamins stay and sometimes they don't. Now I am pregnant and forcing myself to eat constantly getting sick but I thought it was the price on paid for surgery. Some have it and some don't. What did your surgeon say?
I moved from the state where I had my surgery and cannot find a surgeon to see me here.....My gastro Dr is baffled.

I was told i have a herinated umbilical cord and it is only noticable due to pregnancy....Could that be what is causing me to vomit all the time? It has been 2 years since my surgery and I relocated and there is not a surgoen here that will see me but my Gastro dr can't seem to figure it out...

This doesn't just happen with LapRNY. I had open surgery and had an internal hernia and unfortunately I think I have another one

Had appointment with Neurology and the weakness in my right hand arm may be ulnar neuropathy so a nerve conduction test will be scheduled. Also some other labs were ordered drawn too which are Rapid Plasma Reagin, Homocystein, Methylmalic Acid, Protein elctropharesis, and Urine protein electrophersis. Will have results in a few days on the labs. I will know the date of nerve conduction test later next week.
Monday is my appointment with the genetics department and see what more of ideas from there and what else to look at possibly.
So still baffling physicians, but at least making a little groundwork and knowing more as time goes on.

My husband says the same thing for me it breaks my heart cause we both know there's nothing that can be done . But I am learning how to deal with it . I think that we have the same thanks on this day and that is are husbands and kids I know without them I would have mentally lost it . I thank you for letting me vent to thank you so very much . A Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family

I know exactly what you mean about being a mom and the roles being reversed. Most nights my husband has to comfort me through my sickness and he does it with so much compassion. For some reason at night I get to the point my heart beats out of chest and I almost feel like I'm going to pass out. My blood pressure is low and keeping me dizzy, scared and shakey. Thankyou for your knd words, and I will keep in touch about my situation. I told my husband last night about my feelings of reversal and he said if my surgeon doesn't agree, then we'll look for someone that will listen. Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless. Marie.

Marie I'm very sorry for what you are going through . I hope when you go see your Dr. he helps you an every way possible . I to thought I did all my research . I had to wait 2 years before I had mine done. I had to fight with my insurance company to have it done , I was so determined to have this done . I went to classes, read books did Internet research on the RYN and also on the Dr. Not any where did I find that my body would break down and be sick the rest of my life. I to also understand how your family feels. you know one of the most hardest things to deal with is that I'm the mom and I am supposed to be taking care of them instead there taking care of me . It breaks my heart . I do have to say that I've have been blessed that I have a wonderful husband and 3 wonderful boys they take care of me . I thought that this would of been the best thing that I ever done I had hopes and dreams of what my life would of been like I never never imagined this not in a million years. I sometimes get so angry at myself and just wonder why ! I pray the Dr.s can help you . Please keep me updated !
