Topic: This has been done before but not since May 2010... VSG complications?
As the title reads the last time this discussion topic was discussed was in May 2010. I just wanted to re-posted to see if anyone had any thing they wanted to add or any new challenges that may have come up since May 2010

A little background about me, I am a little more than a week out from getting my date for VSG surgery.  I have my appointment with my surgeon on 1/12/2011

I have done a lot of research and according to the amount of weight that I am looking to lose and all of the factors surrounding the different types of surgery, I decided on VSG. I have my concerns since this is major surgery and a major change in my life.  And at this point there is not much that could change my mind .  BUT I do want to make sure that I address everything that I can possibly  find with my surgeon, Maybe I am searching a little too much, but I want to know as much as possible before going in to surgery.

Any information that anyone could provide would be helpful.

Thanks

My BP has run about 90/50 for years. I don't feel it. BUt sounds like yours changed over night, so you'd feel THAT

If you had any WLS and were not taking a good iron and a lot of it, you most likely are iron deficient. But the pica is another indicator.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Topic: Hair loss
Hi! I am in the process of getting approved for RNY. I am just about ready to submit the request to the insurance company for the first time. I wonder...and perhaps it is superficial...about post surgical hair loss. Is it significant? Is it avoidable? Is the loss temporary?  I have a little hereditary thinning of my hair in the front. It is minor enough that I can hide it with the way i style my hair and  a product called Toppik that I apply to a small area. Anyone have any experiences or advice to share? This won't keep me from having my surgery, but I wanted to be prepared. I did start taking some B vitamins and Biotin.

Topic: Low bp 90/53 p94, low iron, severse stomach cramps, bloated stomach
Hi...I just wanted to see if any one else was or has experienced these same problems.   I am about 9 mths post op.  Lost just about 100lbs.  About 2mths ago....i started on bp meds for high bp running in the 195/100 range.  But for the past 2wks I have stopped taking it.  My bp is averaging out at 90/63 p94.  I am light headed dizzy and always feel faint.  I stand up and see black and grey rectangles in front of me.  My stomach has also bloated and I suffer severse stomach cramps.  I am pretty sure my iron level is low...as I have taken to eating 3 48oz blenders of ice during the day and about 2 48 ozs at nite.

Not really sure what to do.

Because you are on liquids and your body is reacting to the liquids.  Give it time. Your body has been through a lot, you've been on liquids for a while and you don't have a "binding" agent yet for your poops.  If it is crippling, call your surgeon but if it is just diarrhea it is pretty darn normal.

Could be anything ranging from food poisoning, to viral or bacterial infection, gastritis, to an overgrowth of bacteria.  Sometimes never know the cause.  Make sure you get plenty of fluids, half gatoraide and half water will help to replace electrolytes.  Start off slowly with blander easier to digest foods and then increase to regular diet from there.  If worried can talk to your doctor and see what is reccommended for you in this case.

I have had my share of nasty  bowel stories and some that rival the bowel fumes from my teen son.  listen to your body and if this is not the norm for you then speak with doctor.  Sometimes just a wait and see approach may be benefitial, but most importantly if dehydrated or going too much get to ER so that fluids can be administered as dehydration is not a good a thing and can be very debilitating and deadly.

Just wondered if anyone had any NASTY bowel stories like I do! Wondered why I have the scoots for the last 2 days?  I have not taken stool softeners since the "explosion"!  It is day 2 of that!
Just wondered if anyone else had trouble with there bowels!~
Please share!

Julie...has any MD ordered an MRI for you? If not PLEASE push for one. There may very well be something else going on not related to the surgery. That just happened to a coworker of mine. Had the surgery a few years ago. Her problems were assumed related to the surgery. Never had an MRI. Unfortunately she was finally diagnosed with pancreatic cancer when it was too late to treat. I don't mean to scare you but this was her experience.
