Hi everyone! I had VSG surgery in June, 2016 and for the most part everything has gone off really really well. I do have a lot of heart burn, but can handle it with tums and other acid blockers type of meds. It happens often, but I just know it is not an uncommon side effect that I am happy to deal with since it was for what is such an important life changer.
The more bothersome things is that I always have a feeling like there is a dry dinner roll stuck in the back of my neck, sort of just below my larynx and that there is a dry meat loaf stuck between my rib cage, kind of the solar plexus area. Just to clarify, no I am not eating dinner rolls at all and have had no dry meat loafs or any meatloaf for that matter. This is not a really painful feeling, just not pleasant and is bothersome. Has anyone else had this same sensation. Any suggestions, any insights, anything.....
Oh, it happens most significantly in the late afternoon, evening, and at night and is worse when I am sitting down or lying down. I do sit and get a lot of catch up paper work for my job in the evening.
Thanks everyone!!!
What is your present diagnosis? What was the diagnosis that had you in and out and in and out of the hospital? It looks like there are many short visits, in and out in a day, some slightly long. None extending for two years. When did you have to go to rehab? Certainly not after a great majority of your visits to the hospital, you don't usually need any rehab service for a short stay.
I did not have my surgery to get skinny. I did it to get healthy. So, I am pretty sure that I would be very obese and unhealthy if I had not had it. I really did not have anything to lose by having the surgery, except for weight and feeling miserable. Are you blaming your problems on the surgery and not really examining what the real contributing factors were. You certainly cannot blame the end of your marriage on surgery. How about because you had a bad marriage, a bad spouse, or you were a bad spouse...I know people who have had major health issues, chronic illnesses, disabilities and there spouses stuck with them every time.
What is the diagnosis that is causing you to need IV every few weeks.? What procedures were done when you were in the hospital?
Hi. I am sorry, I have answers. I have not had this experience. I just wanted to let you know that I hope you are feeling much better soon!
I am 10 years post op, maintaining weight. My surgeon is no longer doing surgeries. Since 2008 I have been seeing doctors at military hospitals with no help. I was told my blood sugar gets low. I went through a Vitamin D deficiency. Complained countless times about pains just below my left breast. Bowel problems (alternating between constipation, loose, and straight out liquid) I was always told it was "GAS" and sent on my way. I started noticing a pattern so when I would flair up with pain I would start a 14 day course of Prilosec otc. Finally 8 years after my first bout of pain landed me in the Emergency Room I am seeing a primary doctor that seems to take me seriously. She sent me in for blood work and now I've been diagnosed with pre diabetes. How is that possible? I was told before my sugar gets low not high but my blood work shows me at 5.8 which is in the pre diabetes range. I was not diabetic prior to surgery.
Early out from surgery I couldn't keep regular milk down. I noticed a pattern with different foods that would make me feel gassy and miserable for days, so I began avoiding them. I always avoid foods with added sugar, I wont even use regular sweetened flavored coffee creamer. I avoid as much artificial chemical sweeteners as well and stick to stevia. I can't tolerate pasta at all (which I've now linked to gluten sensitivity)
About 5 years ago I complained to my husband that my eyes felt off, so he talked me into going to the eye doctor. My eyes had gotten so bad in the 5 years since I had my surgery that she had to prescribe me one eye glass prescription to use for a year before going back and getting the lenses I really needed. She asked me then if I was diabetic and I said no. Now I'm starting to wonder if this has been my issue all along. I'm not sure what to do at this point. so any suggestions are welcome.

Hi everyone,
So glad that I have found some people with the same problems that I have been experiencing for the last five months. After four surgeries and a j tube in place, I am hopeful that a new surgeon will have an answer as to why my remnant keeps blowing up with bile. I just completed a study where the radiologist injected 150 ccs of contrast into my tube and we could see that the remnant was draining. So why am I continuing to drain 500-800 ccs of bile into a bag every day? Please contact me if you have any answers. Good luck to you all!
I have been dealing with the same time of pain (& based on all the other replies, we are not alone) for 4 yrs now. Dealing with the pain is debilitating. I have had every test under the sun & Drs are still at a loss - exploratory surgery is probably going to be the next step. I hope they are able to pin point a cause for you & would love to hear updates.
Good luck!
I have been dealing with something very similar for the last 4 yrs (2yrs post op). Mine has become almost constant at times to the point that I feel my life is essentially on hold. All the standards have been ruled out - pancreatitis, hernia, obstruction, inflammatory, nutritional, everything. I have had a couple ulcers over the years but the pain remains when they heal.
Sorry I can't really offer much help beyond empathy, except for this - switch off the pepto, it contains aspirin which was blamed for one of my ulcers since I was popping them like candy.
The weight loss surgery I had was the RNY-distal performed on November 26, 2012 at a Center for Weight Management in Park Rapids, Minnesota USA. I was ok immediately after the surgeon's skillful hands fixed the problems. I have had no repeat obstructions or hernias to date.
I never had a follow up with him. I understand he quit practicing shortly after my surgery. I have had one problem after another. I became pregnant almost immediately and had 4 pregnancies in 3 years! Then I had a hernia, followed by hernia repair with mesh, the mesh failed and wrapped around the bowel causing obstruction so another repair was done. I started out something like 384 and my lowest was 230. I am now at 319 and need something to happen. I dont know if the pouch is still working. I am curious if others have had issues and could provide some insight.
