Hi Roni, Just wanted to thank you for the info. and find out how you are doing? Has the surgery helped.
I wondered how they could tell that it was the candy cane? I've had test but nothing showing up. I have been getting sicker with no answers in sight.
I called my surgeon he said it couldn't possibly be that. I've lost over 20 pounds and so sick. I'm trying to get in with yet another dr. for another opinion.
I think I am going to end up in the hospital before I can find any answers.
Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Karen, I my name is Deb and I am from NH as well. I am so sorry to hear all you have been through.
I hope you have been able to get some answers. I am thinking it may be possible that I have the same problem going on but not being taken seriously. Could you possibly share the Surgeons name who found your Candy Cane Limb at Mass General? I think its time for me to get another opinion from someone who knows more about this. I would be very grateful, thank you in advance.
I've been feeling sick for over a year now (I am 7 years out) and have lost over 20 pounds in the last year...feel nasuas just thinking of food. Vomit a lot and stomach pain. Had many Endoscopies and they say I have mild gastric reflux and esophageal reflux. Plus have developed hypoglycemia and feel shakey and like passing out. I have seen two drs. already but no answers. I know deep down something is not right...something is wrong and they are just not finding it.
Thanks so much in advance and I hope you have been able to find some relief.
Much Love, Deb I am at my witts end so tired of being sick and lost almost 30 pounds without trying. something is definitely wrong. saw my dr. today and wants me research it with him to find out who could give me some answers.

I know this post is old, but I was wondering if you ended up having a reversal?

I'm sorry you are having these issues. I was wondering how your situation turned out. Did you end up having a reversal?

Hi! I have dealt with almost constant nausea and frequent vomiting for 9 years! There have been different problems addressed, such as ulcers, etc. but even after having surgery to correct the ulcers the nausea persisted.

Finally, after having yet another "normal" Endoscopy and upper GI study done, I was able to get in with the head of the Bariatrics at a hospital about an hour away (but still in my insurance plan).

i am having surgery this Thursday to correct what is known as a "Candy Cane" Roux Limb, or it's called several other things like Redundant Roux Limb, etc.

The way it was explained to me was that the Roux limb was left too long in my gastric bypass surgery, and this leads to food pooling and getting trapped in this extra length of Roux limb that hangs down.

when I googled it the description was exactly me!I will try to add the link here.

You can't say for sure but it's something for you to read up on and ask your surgeon about!

The down side of my surgery is the surgeon said he can't say 100% that this is the cause of my nausea, so we basically have to do the surgery and see what happens. Since there isn't anything else that appears wrong though, I'm more than willing to take the chance and hopefully get fixed!

Good luck! I'll update you on how I do next week.

Take care!

Roni in PA

PS......can't post the link but if you google you should find the info!

Turns out I more than likely have an ulcer in my remanent stomach which is improved on daily PIP but not healed. I also have a condition not directly from the surgery but due to the hormone changes and being so young that my vessels constrict when I stand for long periods kind of like a vasovagal response but not the vagas nerve. Some days I feel optimistic and others I regret having surgery but today I'm feeling pretty good so that's all I can say.
