I had that feeling exactly and I had a leak in my sleeve... I know it may be different because you are a RNY patient... but I guess I wouldn't mess around with any type of chest pain. I would call and ask right away. Be the guy with all the problems! THat's what you pay them for
Good luck. Keep us posted.

I have Gerds and it sounds very similiar. Look up Gerds and see the symptoms I would go to the doctor and get it looked at.

I'm AWAKE and I'm ALIVE!
So in the 3 years since my RNY I've had 4 follow up surgeries. Last October I had my GB out and a small bowel plycation. Everything has been going wonderfully until recently..
So I'm sure many of us have experience the discomfort that comes with eating to fast or eating to much.. That "brick" in the chest feeling. Well as of the last few weeks I'm having discomfort similar to that a lot. It doesn't even have to be with eating, just swallowing I feel like there is SOMETHING in my chest... it happens with drinking and even just taking the first bite of food. I tough it out and finish my food or drink, but sometimes it results in subsquent pain in the abdomen. Has anyone had anything like this before?? Probably not. I'm not trying to rush out and call my surgeron because frankly I'm tired of being the guy with all the problems. So I figured I'd ask here.
Anyway having had an ulcer before, this does NOT feel like that. The ulcer pain was a burning sensation with eating or drinking. This is not burning this is pain like something is BLOCKED. But I'm not vomiting anything, food goes down and stays down. It just feels like something is stuck

Topic: RE: Sleeve Leak w/stents
Thanks for your response. I hope you receive good news from your doctor on Tuesday and get that thing out! It's hell!
I had a CT and an upper GI test run on Friday to make sure all was well to remove the stent. It's supposed to come out early this week - I'm hoping no later than Tuesday. I am counting the minutes! It's been just over 4 weeks since the placement. I just want to feel "normal" again!

I have a stent that was placed 4 days post-op for a stricture. Initially I was tolerating it just fine. I am in a very similar boat as you. Still nauseous, throwing up a few times a week. Just feel like crap. I have lost 36lbs and had surgery 8/6 (3 weeks post op tomorrow). I just want it out now, but will check w/ my MD on Tuesday. Hang in there.

Topic: RE: Food Sensitivities and Leaky Gut Syndrome
hi, I'm having issues with food sensitivites and leaky gut as well. I had RNY in 2008 and have been having all kinds of nutritional deficiencies. I take 35 vitamins a day. I was just dianosed with blind loop syndrome and am having surgery on friday. hope you are doing better.
Topic: RE: Leaks...
I had a gastric band in 2008. Three years later it eroded and nearly killed me. I then started moving toward getting sleeved but have had a couple of set backs. First, my doctor wanted me to wait a year so that the scare tissue from my erosion could soften. Second, I was to go through all of the hoops again (6 month supervised diet, psyc appt, etc). Finally, during my psyc eval, I told them I thought I might be a binge eater so now I am in therapy to try and fix that. I'm not sure where this will take me.
Topic: RE: Leaks...
Not quite sure why leaks happen. I have heard that it happens in about 1% of VSG patients. My clinic has been doing VSG for 4-5 years and have never had a patient with a lea****il me. I have lost a lot of weight and broken a lot of bad habits already. I would still recommend the surgery to anyone - even with my complications.
Topic: RE: Leaks...
I experienced gastric leak and it is no walk in the park. I had RNY. Still don't know why leak happened about 2-3 weeks post surgery. On RNY the numbers run from 2% to 4% for this complication. While I was in hospital there was another woman there who had the VSG and also had a leak. Mystery..
I was in hospital for a month and then home care for a couple of weeks. Could not consume ANYTHING by mouth for this period of time. Hey, broke my addition to Mt Dew.
It was dangerous. The telling symptom was left shoulder referred pain. I also had fever, weakness, etc, because I had a massive ab infection called sepsis (I think). Basically that is bowel fluids in the body. I saw a 40% fatality rate if have gastric leak with RNY.
Yes, it can happen. Lots of things can happen. Then I have had complications from that leak and I am 8+ months post op. Recently had to have a 3rd surgery to remove infected cyst on ab wall at the leak site. Hey, better than other problems! :)
