On May 5th, it will be 10 years since my open RNY Bypass.
I originally lost 149 lbs. About 4 years ago started gaining weight back. Could eat more. But just thought it was cause I wasn't eating correctly. 8 weeks ago started having heartburn. My surgeon retired several years ago. Seen a new surgeon this past Thursday. He reminded me that we should never have heartburn. He thinks that I have a fistula. I'm having a scope on April 4th and then a barium swallow.
Thanks

Could be appendicitis. When I had mine it was a dull ache that felt like gas, When the pain increased and nausea kicked in I went to the ER.

I just found out I have a bezoar. Has anyone else out there had one? I am taking meat tenderizer with water, drinking Coca-Cola and on a clear liquid diet (per Dr's orders). I was in the hospital all night with major pain, throwing up like 15 times (eventually it got to where I drank a sip of water and thew up hours-old food!). I had an endoscopy where they discovered it wasn't "esophageal spasms" or "nausea due to vertigo." Yes, the ER doc thought it was spasms and the GI guy thought it was nausea due to vertigo. The whole time I was telling them this happened after I ate and it felt like there was something STUCK in there. I wonder if they felt bad after they found the bezoar. I sure would have. I am glad I can listen to my body and didn't accept "spasms" or "vertigo" as answers.
Anyway, does anyone have any wisdom about bezoars? I am getting anxious about the thought of surgery. I have until Friday for this thing to either go down or come up! Right now it's stuck in my esophagus and moves down periodically. I am terrified! :( Also, I find it ironic that I FINALLY weaned myself off all sodas (for over a year now) and here I am drinking them at will, per doctor's orders. It doesn't even taste good!

Have your Vitamin D tested..... My original surgery was in Nov/2009. For a long time now, I had been feeling those sugar crash like symptoms, so I've been having everything tested. We discovered that I was severely defficient in Vitamin D. I was at an 8, and we went back to realize that two years ago it was only at 31. The 'normal' range is 30-100 and they prefer us to be at 50 or above. Anyway, in researching, my GP discovered that Vitamin D deficiency can cause extreme sensitivity to sugars, causing our bodies to overreact. After nearly 4 weeks of high dose Vitamin D (along with magnesium and potasium, too). I am not having near the sensitivity that I was. Other signs of Vitamin D deficiency include, tiredness, muscles soreness, bone 'pain', and sometimes depression. It's another one of those things that we forget to have checked... and sometimes, it's the simplest things to fix. Best wishes to you!!
