Wow this is quite scary. 13 years out and having a complication like this. I didn't even know RNY surgery was reversible. I hope you can give us an update on what happened. Is a reversal rerouting all the intestines back the way they used to be? I assume the stomach would still be small though because when they staple off the stomach it becomes atrophied(so my dietician told me)
I had gastric bypass in 2008. About four years later, I started getting a slight "pinching" sensation in the exact same spot of lower left abdomen. Could this be surgery site related? Scar tissue?
So for the last 4 months I've been experiencing almost constant discomfort in my chest and almost everything I eat gets stuck. So I finally got in for an EGD yesterday and they determined that something has gone wrong with the sutures from my RNY almost 10 years ago! It seems as though somehow one of my sutures has come through the wall of my esophagus and it's creating like a clothes line straight across and my food keeps getting hung. Has anyone else experienced this? If so how did they fix it?
they will have to go in surgically, sew off and remove the old suture and replace it with new suture.
Hi, I see you posted this a few years ago and am wondering how you are doing today. I've had some of the same problems you had and then some. I'd like to chat and compare. Thanks

I never thought I'd be here, posting again, but here I am. I am having problems again and was just in the ER yesterday. Of course, I had a young PA who obviously doesn't have any experience with gastric bypass patients. She sent me home with "gastritis" and nausea meds. I've also lost all of my teeth. Im 38 and had beautiful, perfect teeth before RNY. I have a partial on the top and a full denture on the bottom. I got this in the last 2 weeks and the denture doesn't fit at all. Because of this, I've only been able to eat around 200 calories a day consisting of mashed potatoes and grits. I've lost about 12 lbs since then. I'm also losing all my hair. I used to have long, thick hair. Now I can't stand taking showers because of all the hair I lose. I feel like I am dying everyday. I can't work anymore and I can hardly take care of my kids. If you are reading this and haven't had surgery yet, PLEASE reconsider. It's the worst thing I've ever done and if I could do it over, I would NEVER do it. Thanks for reading.
How about "sometimes these things happen for no "reason"!!!! Medical complications are a fact and many times are no fault of anyone. Surgeons are not Gods, the best ones can still have complications. I know this post is old but it upset me so much I had to vent!
im sitting in the ER right now due to another problem......after 9 years of vomiting, doing ok at times, I had surgery to fix a "candy cane roux syndrome" but they accidentally punctured my bowel. Now I'm on my 3rd surgery coming up to try and fix it.
i never thought any of this would happen to me either. Why are you guys getting so ****y just because she is trying to warn people to take a second thought before surgery?? Wayyyyy too many people have this surgery and never once think about complications, or even realize it could happen.
because things,medically speaking,usually happen for a reason.
We may not " know" the reason, but there is a reason.
