Topic: My Upper Abdomen is HUGE and I Can't BURP!!

I am 5 years out from a RNY revision (from a VBG in 2003). I have a flat stomach in the morning but blow up after eating just about everything. I almost never am able to burp (it has to be really bad and then it's only a small burp) and interestingly, I pass no feed on the rare occasion I "vomit".

I have told my Bariatric surgeon and he told me to stop chewing gum, don't talk while I eat, decrease gas-producing foods, etc.

I don't think he grasps the severity of swelling I have: my abdominal circumfrence can expand over 9 inches from morning to night (upper abdomen)! I have to change from medium to large scrubs by the end of a 12 hour shift, MOST days!

Am I alone in this symptom or are there others out there with similar end-of-day bloating?

Thanks.. Feeling Pudgy in Dallas!

Topic: RE: Reactive Hypoglycemia or Dumping and Peripheral Neuropathy?

For the neuropathy have they checked your B6?  My B12, thiamine etc  had always been on the high side without supplementation-

I went to a new Doc with horrible numbness/tingling/pain in hands/feet, all over.  Turns out my B6 was 8 (20-125)  at the same time my B12 was 882 (243-894).  It took about a month but with supplementation then numbness etc went away.  I stopped wearing splints at night and life is now good.

I too have problems with RH and just try and eat every 2 hours- (high protein)

Topic: Complications: had rouenx y, then revision, & then reversal & still having issues

March 10,2009 Had rouenx y gastric bypass. 2 wks later had gastritis. 6 mos later I developed my first ulcer. I followed the rules to a T and still had issues. Yes, I lost 130 lbs at my lowest. Due to ulcers had to have a revision May 10, 2011 surgeon said no one had ever developed ulcers after a revision. 2 mos later ulcers were back. Was in the hospital a total of 36 days from Aug-Dec of 2011. Ulcers were so bad they said they would kill me unless I had a complete reversal of the gastric bypass. My surgeon treated me crappy since I was not one of her success stories. Jan. 31, 2012 I had the reversal they said I probably wouldn't make it off the table, but I did. I have regained 70+ lbs which is very depressing. I had 3 strictures following the reversal. I am now going thru 6 wks now of being unable to eat & keep food down. Severe nausea, vomiting & pain. I have seen 2 different surgeons, 2 GI dr's, & now waiting for July 22 appt with another GI specialist in Indy. They are thinking I may need a gastric pacemaker. Stomach has been cut so many times it doesn't work properly. Food pools, then once it doe**** my intestines it takes forever to move thru causing bad constipation alot. I feel isolated & like I am never going to be fixed. Tonight has been a rough one as I try not to take pain meds, but the nause & pain was so bad it was grating on my nerves. It is very hard to keep my spirits up. I even made a facebook page Complications After Gastric Bypass hoping to meet others who have had complications after WLS so we can share information, support & encourage one another. Please look me up on facebook. Veronica C. David is my name. Also join my page & invite others you might know who could use some support.

Thanks,

Veronica

Thanks for the reply...the family doctor actually thinks that it might be what you mentioned.  I go for a CT and we will see from there...

Hello, I don't know anything about your visit or what to expect, but it sounds like it might be diverticulitis. My brother gets it, and the symptoms sound similar. Good luck to you!

Topic: 6 years post op and feeling tummy pain

I am waiting for a call back from my original surgeon and have an appointment tomorrow morning with my family practitioner just in case.  But, as I research online about possible complications I get scared!  I was hoping someone would have experience or more info than me to help me know what to say and ask for when I go in to either doctor.  I assume my surgeon will have me come in since I have missed my annual check up the last 2 years

I have also had a tummy tuck to remove skin and a hysterectomy, so with so many abdomen area issues I am not sure it is even WLS related (but think it probably is).

I have been pretty good about taking supplements, but tend to go too long overlooking B12.  I have regained about 20 lbs in the last year due to bad eating choices.  There have been a few times over the last couple of years where my lower stomach right above the pubic bone would swell a bit in the evening.  I attributed this to the plastic surgery.  However, the last few weeks I have started swelling more often in the evening and had a mild stabbing pain in one area below the belly button.  Across the middle of this area I get cramping and bloated feeling.  It is worse when I stand up and later in the day usually, but today it is bothering me first thing in the morning.  It isn't terribly painful, but uncomfortable and sore/pressure?  It almost feels like my skin is tight (even when not swollen) and there is pressure pulling my stomach downward.

I have had irregular bowel movements this entire week (first constipated then diarrhea and lots of stinky gas that can be easy to pass, difficult to pass, and sometimes it doesn't pass at all.  No fever, no vomiting, same appetite.

What should I expect from a general prac. visit or ask for?  If I see the surgeon, what do I request or expect there?  Thanks for any advice!

Topic: help needed from people who had the weight loose surgery
HI I'm a nurse from Poland. I'm suffering from the morbid obesity science I remember. In my country there is a difficulty to undergo the bariatric surgeries, it's still not popular and the people do not have a knowladge about it. I'm trying to write a master thesis about the quality of life after bariatric surgeries. The main aim of it is to make a surgeries more popular by showing how life saving it can be. I'm interested in every opinion either it's good or bad. It in NOT for any marketing reaserch or anything like that. I'm studying nursery on Jagiellonian University, the resulsts will be analysed and used in a masters thesis, and hopefully If I will get enought of respondents I will publish the results for the use of medical stuff in Poland. My opinion is that the feedbeck from the patients is the most valiable sourse of how the procedures are recieved. I kindly request your help in conducting research aimed at improving the quality of life of people after bariatric surgery. The questionnaire is anonymous. The questionaire contains 39 questions it takes about 5-10 min. It is very important to answer all of them. Please help me to help other people who struggle with obesity. http://moje-ankiety.pl/respond-49823.html

Topic: Cramping between breasts, anyone?
After my RNY 13 years ago, I started getting these chest pains that lasted a couple minutes. Terrible cramp. Of course I went to the Dr thinking it was a heart attach, but it wasn't, thank goodness. Never did find the cause, but it was so infrequent that I didn't worry about it. Now I get it several times a day and it doesn't really go away. Anyone else experience this?
